The AP’s pick  for best website in 2008 is going to Hulu. As I think back to the new websites over 2008, I won’t take exception with that pick. Hulu did just about everything right and I know our family got some real world usage out of the site before getting our TV back. What’s been popular at Hulu so far?

One of the year’s biggest hits was Joss Whedon’s three-part musical "Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog" (on Hulu). "SNL" clips were enormously popular online thanks to Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impression (also on Hulu). And other sites like FunnyOrDie.com and Strike.TV were pipelines for Hollywood pros to try their hands at Web videos.

Being a Joss Whedon fan with Firefly and Serenity, I had to go over there and check out Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. Because Hulu allows awesome embeds, I can share with readers Act 1 (13:48) below:

Doogie Howser (Neil Patrick Harris) as Dr. Horrible meets Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion). Corny music but artsy and fun. Superhero musical that’s a “web exclusive” with pro talent and Joss Whedon’s stamp puts it at the top. You can check out Episode 2 and Episode 3 as well.
