As a huge fan of JJ Abrams, it's good to hear that he is getting involved in the ST franchise.

And I think that Shatner is brilliant as Denny Crane, but I don't see Abrams having any reason to lie about this. Simply state that Kirk died in a previous movie and bringing him back didn't fit with the current storyline and/or vision for the movie.

I hate to point fingers w/out knowing how it went down, but I can't see why Abrams would stir up controversy needlessly when it could have been avoided. And since I've also heard that Shatner isn't easy to work with, my money is on him being the source of trouble in this case. Just a guess, of course.

Sadly, this seems mostly to me like some very good evidence that "The Shat" has finally realizes just how irrelevant he is. Oh sure, I'll gives him props for nostalgia's sake, but come on, he's pretty much a has-been. Yet, his Kirk-sized ego is just astounding.

And besides all of that, he's publicly ripped on Nimoy & some of the others, yet I've never heard of any of them "dissing" him.
