Understanding the joke (?) behind the Swedish Furniture Generator |
Ok, if there is a joke here somewhere then I don’t get it.
What is the deal with this Swedish Furniture Generator? I’ll have to ask my friend Marcus from Sweden to explain or in the meantime, maybe some other readers might get the joke. Or is the joke on me and this is a useful tool of some kind?
Did this post make you go hmm?

TDavid, ever been to Ikea? check out the names of all the furniture, then you’ll get it.

Never been to IKEA, so go ahead, what’s the inside joke?

Ikea is the joke - or should that be ‘is a joke?’ Actually, their furniture and household stuff isn’t half bad, but their instructions for putting stuff together really are a joke.

No IKEA in this state (WA), it seems. Closest one I’ve seen is North in Canada. That must be contributing to my lack of understanding the humor here.

TDavid — you’re kidding right?! there’s one right down the street from where we live, in Renton.
It’s been here over a decade.

jon - really? No, I didn’t know that. Looked over the IKEA website and must have missed the listing. What’s the address?

yep, right on the corner of maple valley highway and petrovitsky (i guess it’s either 43rd or Carr road down there), by the regal valley cinemas.

I’m writing in a little late, but note that Ikea has quite the cult following. It’s derided as being furniture “for college kids and divorced men” but actually has a range of styles, some of which is quite nice and all very inexpensive. We bought all the kids furniture there as well as house bookshelves, coffee table, etc. They really play up the Swedish thing too– every store has a cafeteria serving meatballs and they have a food counter by the checkout selling crackers, spreads, jams, etc.
There’s a great song by Jonathan Coulton (free CC download here) that praises Ikea
