Ooops. I mis-wrote. I meant to write, "Especially when both songwriters used the same concept, an anti-war ballad from the perspective OF THE SOLDIER. Sorry.

I don't know what to think quite honestly. I agree the lyrics aren't the same. Nor is the music and instrumentation. But I think the combination of words, "Christmas in Fallujah" is pretty unusual, don't you? Especially when both songwriters used the same concept, an anti-war ballad from the perspective against the war. (Also, Fallujah certainly hasn't figured prominently in war news for the past two years.)

BTW, both Jefferson Pepper's album and one of his songs are titled "Christmas in Fallujah." But the entire album is a protest against the war.

I just read the lyrics to the Jefferson Pepper song -- it is NOTHING like Billy's song. It is just a coincidence. I saw this performed live at the Billy Joel concert in Dallas this past Tuesday night. Cass Dillon has a great voice and I will listen to it over and over. it is a beautiful song and very well written.

Ruth - have you heard Mr. Pepper's song? I notice you left a link to the site where his Christmas in Fallujah album can be purchased for $14.95. Are the songs similar or is this just a title coincidence? There are lots of songs with the same titles, but songs with the same titles that deal with Iraq war is a pretty big coincidence, I'll admit. I'm not sure by your comment what you're insinuating -- or if you are insinuating anything at all (?)

It certainly did make me go, "hmmmmm." Because two years ago Jefferson Pepper released a song called "Christmas in Fallujah," an anti-war ballad also told from the perspective of a soldier in Iraq.

But don't believe me, check it out for yourself: http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=41253
