we came to fight the infidel,
There is no justice in the desert,
because there is no god in Hell

I bought a song yesterday that didn’t benefit a great cause like this, so wasted no time purchasing this song today. I’m posting about it here to encourage others to buy the song and/or donate to the charity directly. Spread the word.
Why Billy Joel wrote the song and didn’t perform
Wondering why Billy Joel didn’t record the song himself? As told by Howard Stern earlier this week who knows Billy personally, Billy felt that having somebody closer to the age of most soldiers would have a greater impact. Cass Dillon who is in his twenties was chosen to sing and I think he did an admirable job. What about you?
I’ve been listening to the song quite a bit today, powerful lyrics, and it really makes you think. It’s important this holiday season to remember the brave men and women doing their best in a situation nobody can characterize as ideal, particularly at this time of year. I talked to a client who is in the service and home for a couple weeks only to be heading back over there for a second tour of duty building roads in Afghanistan. I made sure to thank him multiple times for his service to our country.

It certainly did make me go, “hmmmmm.” Because two years ago Jefferson Pepper released a song called “Christmas in Fallujah,” an anti-war ballad also told from the perspective of a soldier in Iraq.
But don’t believe me, check it out for yourself: http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=41253

Ruth - have you heard Mr. Pepper’s song? I notice you left a link to the site where his Christmas in Fallujah album can be purchased for $14.95. Are the songs similar or is this just a title coincidence? There are lots of songs with the same titles, but songs with the same titles that deal with Iraq war is a pretty big coincidence, I’ll admit. I’m not sure by your comment what you’re insinuating — or if you are insinuating anything at all (?)

I just read the lyrics to the Jefferson Pepper song — it is NOTHING like Billy’s song. It is just a coincidence. I saw this performed live at the Billy Joel concert in Dallas this past Tuesday night. Cass Dillon has a great voice and I will listen to it over and over. it is a beautiful song and very well written.

I don’t know what to think quite honestly. I agree the lyrics aren’t the same. Nor is the music and instrumentation. But I think the combination of words, “Christmas in Fallujah” is pretty unusual, don’t you? Especially when both songwriters used the same concept, an anti-war ballad from the perspective against the war. (Also, Fallujah certainly hasn’t figured prominently in war news for the past two years.)
BTW, both Jefferson Pepper’s album and one of his songs are titled “Christmas in Fallujah.” But the entire album is a protest against the war.

Ooops. I mis-wrote. I meant to write, “Especially when both songwriters used the same concept, an anti-war ballad from the perspective OF THE SOLDIER. Sorry.
