I just purchased the game last night and played for about 2 hours. I have a 42" LG LCD screen that's 720p. I'm using component from the Wii and it looks great, crisp and clear. My only complaint is that the Wii is only 480p, and I can see the pixels clearly from my gamer chair. No normal system compressed visuals after they get out of the game, so if you see anything less than crisp graphics (even if you can see the pixels) then there is something wrong with your setup.

The only thing that's compressed is the intro movie you see in Mario right after you walk a little bit, the one with the flying airships. Nintendo doesn't normally do video (actually this might be the first time ever) and imho it's compressed too much. Maybe Nintendo thinks everybody plays in SD or on a 27" screen, but on 42" I can see lots of MPEG style compression.

Despite, the game looks great and plays even better, without a doubt the best game on the Wii. The Gamecube had Resident Evil 4, and the Wii has Mario Galaxy, definitely a contender for game of the year.

It could be a faulty cable. I'll get some video shot showing what I'm seeing. I think with the HD you'll be able to see the stark difference.

I have mine running with official Nintendo cables and haven't noticed any issues compared to other Wii titles.

It's probably the 720p and 1080p exposure you've had lately.

interesting about the resolution. i haven't tried my Wii on component at all - I don't have a receiver on my 36" sony, and it's 2 component inputs are take by my sony DVD player and a HD cable box.

I think cables do make a difference- i have the same TV on another floor, but with monster component cables on a not too later model dvd player - and the quality is definitely much better. I'm not familiar with the component cable mentioned, but i wonder if better cables might make a difference?
