OJ could finally see jailtime if found guilty in memorabilia shakedown |
The last time we checked in on the circus life of former NFL star and infamous murder suspect who a jury found not guilty OJ Simpson, he was behind a book and planned FOX special telling how he would have killed his wife, if he’d killed her. Even Fox mogul Rupert Murdoch couldn’t stomach the despicable nature of this book and show idea and it was pulled, never to air. The book was shelved too, although a few copies escaped into the wild. One of the books even appeared on eBay.
Update 11:10am PST: Vince Williams rightly notes in the comments below that a federal judge awarded the Goldman family the rights to this book and that it is now for sale. I’ve added the Amazon code to the right so you can follow. It’s a referral link, just FYI, so I get a few pennies if anybody buys it through there.
TMZ has audio of a very pissed off OJ Simpson confronting a room of sports memorabilia dealers inside a room at the Palace casino. The snag? Allegedly somebody in OJ’s posse was carrying a gun. OJ contends the dealers were trying to make money off stolen property and that no gun was present.
via Associated Press:
After being whisked away in handcuffs, Simpson was booked Sunday night on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm, police said. The district attorney said he expected Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor.
(Geek sidenote: that’s the first Google News AP content link used here. Formerly, Google News would link to multiple sites reporting from the same AP source. Now Google News buys the AP content and links it themselves)
Just one count of robbery could mean 30 years in jail if convicted. OJ will be sans the captain of his dream team lawyers (Johnnie Cochran died in March 2005 of a brain tumor) for this trial which if he’s found guilty will be a miracle if it doesn’t see any jail time. Another OJ trial in the next year? Just what television needs. CourtTV must already be ecstatic.
Fred Goldman, firm believer that OJ literally got away with the murder of his son remarks of this new OJ mess:
He’s someone that just lets go at any given moment and does whatever he feels like. I certainly think it’s a coincidence, but it’s — it’s fascinating that, as always, he just decides to do something and feels justified in doing it.
Awhile back we had a non-internet savvy client who wanted us to sell a signed OJ Simpson picture on eBay. We listed it twice and it never sold. We returned the picture to our client. Kind of wish I had it now to be able to take a picture for this post. At the time I remember thinking that there wouldn’t be a market for OJ’s stuff and wasn’t surprised that the signed picture didn’t sell.
Simpson is being held without bail.
Did this post make you go hmm?

TD, a federal judge awarded the book’s publishing rights to the Goldman family. They retitled it ‘If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer”.
It hit number 1 on Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com on Sunday.
(It’s number 2 On Amazon today).

Sheesh, how did I miss that part of the story? Thanks Vince for the correction. I’ll update the post above to reflect this. And maybe I’ll even go out and buy this book this week, although the Amazon review grade so far is three stars.

BTW if you have an Amazon referral ID, Vince, I’ll use yours instead of ours in the post above
Just drop it in an email to me if you like and I’ll get it changed out.
