Guitar Hero II songs pricey on Xbox Live |

One of the more creative games to come out on consoles the last few years is Guitar Hero [see Guitar Heros II review] and it’s good to see the Xbox 360 finally get a title that the Playstation 2 has enjoyed for awhile. While I haven’t bought it yet, it’s on the list. The reason I’m interested in the 360 version of Guitar Hero II has been the promised song pak add-ons through Xbox Live.
Major Nelson announced the release of the first three packs and gamers in the comments are unhappy with the 500 points price tag for three songs. I agree. See the math:
1,000 Microsoft Points = $12.50
500 points = $6.25 / 3 songs = $2.08 per song!
I figured they would sell these songs which are done by cover bands, not even the original artists, for less than the price of an iTunes song ($0.99). Heck, these are more expensive than the EMI songs that are not DRM-laced. If they sold all three packs for 500 points that would be better. Considering you can get entire arcade games for less than the price of three GH II songs this makes one wonder if prices for content at Xbox Live will be going up in the future. Hope not.
Bad news: another Xbox 360 repair
One of our two 360s is down again and awaiting repair. We’ve called them twice and they are taking their sweet time sending us a replacement box. In fact, I have to call them later today to complain about not receiving the box to send the broken Xbox 360 back to Texas. I’m pretty sure this is the third replacement unit in a year. The outsourced customer service reps are very hard to understand, Microsoft. The Xbox 360 has great games and is a lot of fun when it works but it’s clearly the most unreliable console gaming system of all time.
Despite this unreliability my wife and I will likely be getting our own Xbox 360 soon. And yes we’ll definitely be buying an extended warranty. We’re looking at the Xbox 360 Elite that is due out the end of this month. If we can get one, anyway.

Microsoft has been really good about taking returns on the 360, but I’ve got to say that the quality of the console is total junk. Just about everyone I know has had to replace at least one console within the first year of owning it. I’m not sure why there are the problems because I played my original Xbox without incident for 5 years, but having also gone through 2 360 consoles already, I’m a little worried about what will happen once Microsoft quits replacing the defective machines.

Davis - shortly after making this post the box arrived to send back the Xbox 360. I don’t know anybody that hasn’t had console problems either which isn’t a testament to Microsoft hardware prowess. Let’s hope they’ve learned something for the Elite.

I have bought the xbox 360 and had to replace it twice in less than 6 months. I have called costomer service and could hardly understand them as well as completely no help. They hide behind lack of knowledge and policy loop holes. They don’t care about the customer just the money comming in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
