Playstation Home virtual world coming for free to PS3 this fall |
Earlier today I wrote that Sony better get their online act together because Xbox Live continues to beat them down. Seems they aren’t standing around flat footed. Just alerted by darkmoon that Joystiq has details on Playstation Home, the virtual community for the PS3 available for free in April as a beta and this fall as a full release (emphasis mine):
PlayStation Home is a virtual community of PS3 owners living together in both public and private environments. Users will be able to login, chat with both text and speech and play casual games together such as pool, bowling and even embedded arcade machines.
I like the embedded arcade part. Imagine playing a real game of Sonic on a virtual arcade inside your tricked out virtual arcade pad? Joystiq is comparing to Second Life, but that seems way premature. A lot of things are compared to SL that don’t compare. Unless I can make things and sell them for some sort of virtual to real world currency, it’s not comparable. Still, virtual worlds continue to head up and it’s looking like our group blog VTOReality.com is going to be in a great position to cover these exciting, expanding worlds.

looks frigging cool… if I could afford a PS3. :p

i am a ps3 owner and am very excited about home. i hope to participate in the home beta testing. the ps3 is a great machine it delivers on every level. online gaming is lag free, game downloads are quick.the blue ray is just so sick it hurts. $600.00 whats everyone crying about…….wireless controllers/wifi/hdmi/blueray/ ripcds/harddisk/photos/videos/free game demos/internet browser/ free online gaming with dedicated servers/1080 graphics/ backwards compatability with all of MY old ps2 games……….. wooooh thats enough , but not everything there is to say about the ps3 and more importantly sony. they will support this platform just as they continue to support the ps1 and ps2 to this day!

I keep on seeing comments about when home is coming out but there’s never an answer, I heard that it was supposed to come out in fall of 2007, but now it’s may 2008 and still not out, what happened please tell me when it’s finally going to be ready it’s starting to get frustrating.
