PS3 adds new games: Flow, Qbert and Virtua Fighter 5 |

Bought three new PS3 games this weekend, two of them from the not-quite-weekly updated PlayStation store and one from a local retail store. Flow is a bizarre game that I haven’t gotten into that much yet was priced at $7.99 and a surprise of a classic gem for $4.99: Q*bert! I’ve been playing the heck out of that 3D cube turning title that I’d hoped would come to the Xbox Live Arcade someday (and hasn’t yet). Qbert along with Zaxxon were two of my favorite arcade games.
Yesterday we were out grocery shopping and picked up Virtua Fighter 2005. It’s a max rez 720p but looks and sounds really good. The fighter titles have been, well, pretty much non-existent on the PS3 to date, so this title is welcomed. From what I’ve seen so far, I like it, but I’m sure some are going to complain that it isn’t full on 1080p. Since the draw to the PS3 is the 1080p and the games have been slow in coming, I’m surprised they are releasing any new titles that aren’t 1080p.

I’d like to see them do a new version of Virtua Cop and offer an old school USB gun controller. Tgat game was a lot of fun, especially in two player mode.
Even without Q*bert, Xbox Live still has nothing to worry about from the Playstation store. Not that I expected Sony to take my update a couple times a week advice, but they are still not updating the PlayStation store often enough, not even weekly which is a tragic mistake. A couple games a month won’t get it done when Xbox Live continues to add new titles weekly, not to mention new movies and TV shows. I’m not a trailer fan so I could care less about Blu-ray trailers Sony offers.
I’ve also been reading a few stories (sorry, I didn’t keep the links) that Sony is starting to slash prices and give more stuff away to try and get people to buy systems. The real battle will be fought this coming holiday season but so far it’s Microsoft and Nintendo kicking butt and taking names and Sony choking on their dust. Still a good nine months to holiday season 2007 and I’m not counting Sony out yet, but the more time that goes by the more difficult it’s going to be for them, sort of like how it was for the Xbox vs. PS2.
Speaking of the Wii, I hope they don’t spoil their momentum with hardware versionitis. I suppose having different colors and models with different features has worked for them in the past, but personally, I prefer companies to build onto their existing systems. DVD playback on the Wii? Who doesn’t already have a DVD player hooked into their system?
Spending the weekend kicking back here and enjoying some R&R. Hope your weekends are going well too.
Did this post make you go hmm?
