I agree that Van Halen was the shit with David out front. Eddie's playing was unique and defined, but after Big Dave left, caput went the band. It's gonna be hard to find another Dave. Bass players are a dime a dozen. Mike Anthony was an okay bassist, and added background vocals, so young Wolfgang will fit. AC/DC is the only band that I know of who got lucky to find an exact lead vocalist replacement.

I have always liked Van Halen, mostly for Eddie's guitar work. But I think David Lee Roth really defined the personality of the band, which it lacked after he left.

They were talking about that on Howard Stern's show today, Matt. Eddie can't prevent Michael Anthony from being at the ceremony, but he could nix a peformance (which would be lame). I didn't bother to throw in the Cherone era Van Halen.

I say absolutely - 3 number one albums with Hagar.....5150 is one of my desert island discs.

I like both Roth and Hagar era VH.

I hope that Eddie will be classy enough to let Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar take their proper place at the ceremony, and play with the band....certainly, Michael Anthony needs to be on that stage..

That's what pains me about the forthcoming reunion tour...no MA...that's a huge void...

Agree with you - no David Lee, no Hall of Fame. It was his showman's swagger that set the stage.

It's also great to see bands that were sometimes derided by the critics in their day now ascend in hindsight.
