At least those incremental versions actually have features I can use and aren't delayed for about four years. And not to mention it's more innovative. It's interesting that you see something that MacOSX does at MacWorld, and then.. lo and behold, Windows team says... "oh.. we got that too.." and releases something similar six months later as a feature of Vista.

Vista in itself doesn't have any of the features that it was "supposed" to come with that made it special. WinFS? Where? Huh? I mean, I suppose Readyboost is okay, but there really isn't a reason that you need that much ram to run the OS unless you're seriously terrible at optimizing. Beryl and Compiz show that all the eye candy can be done for minimal easily. Even MacOSX does it well on the current specs but go figure. It's based on a BSD derivative.

The $259 for Vista with Bill Gates sig? Hell, I'd probably rather give that $259 to charity. And an upgrade version no less. ick.

Ick. I'd rather spend the $259 on something worthwhile. Like MacOSX. For $199 you can get a 5-user pack. :p

[...] If you’re interested, you can pre-order an upgrade copy of Windows Vista Ultimate signed by Bill Gates himself. It’s extremely limited, with Big Bill signing only 20,000 copies, and as TDavid notes, it is likely the last operating system Gates will be involved in and thus autograph. [...]

I'm surprised they are still available, Fred. I was thinking of buying one (still am), but then wouldn't want to open the box, so it would be an extra 259 bones + tax to either sit on a shelf or be used as a contest prize or gift. If Amazon took PayPal I'd have pulled the trigger before posting this.
