Sony gives 30 days free Everquest to prior customers in good standing |
I’ve been waiting for something positive I can write about Sony and this morning something finally hit my inbox.
I received notificaton that my Everquest account has been reactivated — since it was in good standing and closed prior to Oct 2006 — and if I download install and login to Everquest before 11:59 PM PDT January 18, 2007 I can get 30 days free access, no strings attached. A nice way to try and lure me back into the Dungeon and Dragonesq world. I sort of miss my characters left in the world. One of the characters was left in a perilous area without weaponry or armor, if my memory serves. I like that Sony maintains character records so you can start where you last left off.
Everquest hasn’t ever been installed on the computer I’m writing this on and the last time I played any MMORPG from Sony was Star Wars Galaxies on the Tablet PC. Haven’t played Sony’s top competition in the MMORPG space World of Warcraft either, opting instead to play and review the Reel Deal Casino Vegas online (no longer a member there either), although our middle son (”the gamer”) played WoW for awhile.
Last night at the store I was checking out the Everquest II game box. Not sure EQII ever really took off like Everquest. I enjoy exploring Massive Mulitplayer Online worlds and contribute my thoughts on them periodically to our group bloging effort: VTOR - Virtual TO Reality, which we are currently in the process of migrating to one of our dedicated servers away from its current third party free hosting.
Any diehard Everquesters reading? How high a level character do you have?
Did this post make you go hmm?

I am glad to see this; we had 7 EQ accounts for our family and moved to World of Warcraft about 6 months ago along with most of our guild. Sony ruined EQ for playing; you can’t do anything without a group and we spent hours sitting there; in addition, they kept adding new useless features which ruined the game and slowed down response time and zoning instead of fixing outstanding bugs. With the newest patch, Blizzard ruined WoW in one patch as much as Sony ruined EQ in 6 months and we are looking for a new game; we went back to EQ for a day and left it. We would love to go back to EQ if Sony returned to the core values that made the game great to begin with, and made it possible to solo at any level with your class, instead of spending hours waiting on groups, in addition fixing the major bugs instead of adding new features people don’t want for the most part. I know a lot of 50-60ish characters who want to go back but won’t because of the fact that there is nothing for them to do in the game and those who stayed with EQ consider them noobs even though many of these people were there in the original EQ beta.
