SWG succeeded in one of it's goals by sucking in a non MMORPG gamer simply because of the name.
My friends had played Everquest for years and I never had any interest. Once SWG came out they all switched and I started. It was great and I played (too much) for about a year.
I was in the first rebel guild on our server to take an imperial base. I owned a speeder-bike, dewbacks (creature handler), massive house with all the fixins and lived in a great player city with all the amenities available.
Then everyone found out that Jedi could be obtained by grinding each profession until you figured out which one opened it for you. I hated this aspect and thought it was an annoying way to grant the abilities. Everyone I played with was constantly grinding professions and never had time to just explore or do anything not related to their current profession grind.
Then I quit and sold my account.
I play City Of Heroes for a few months but my computer wasn't up to snuff and found I did not have that much time to invest in a game anymore.
I am interested in the rumored DC universe superhero MMORPG and the Firefly one shows some promise to me. It can provide both sci-fi and a western genres in one game.

I've been a Browncoat from way back and although I am not into gaming the fact that it's based on the Firefly/Serenity Universe is enough for me to give it a shot.
