The day after Wii are out of shape

gaming — by TDavid @ 1:00 pm PST

Wii Sports bowling my high score as of 11/20: 230

Ouch, I’m feeling all achey-breaky this morning after spending most of yesterday playing the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo should partner up with Ben-Gay. I should have done some stretching exercises before breaking into sessions of Wii Sports Boxing, Golf, Bowling and Tennis. The only Wii Sports game I haven’t played yet is Baseball. This is one seriously fun title.

Wii Virtual Console titles available now and by the end of the year
Currently the Wii Virtual Console offers the following games at Wii Points ($1 USD = 100 points):

Sega Genesis (all 800 Wii Points): Altered Beast, Sonic The Hedgehog
NES (all 500 Wii Points): Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Pinball, Soccer, Solomon’s Key, Legend of Zelda, Wario’s World
SNES (all 800 Wii Points): F-Zero, Sim City
Nintendo 64 (1000 Wii Points): Super Mario 64
Turbografix-16 (600 Wii Points): no titles yet available

Coming by the end of December 2006 according to article on Nintendo.com:

NES: Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Pinball, Soccer, Tennis, Urban Champion, Wario’s Woods, Baseball, Solomon’s Key

SNES: F-Zero, SimCity

N64: Super Mario 64

Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine

TurboGrafx16: Bonk’s Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomberman ’93, Dungeon Explorer

Bonk’s Adventure and Gunstar Heroes are great games, looking forward to both of those.

What is a Mii?
The Wii has a creative avatar and game system called Mii. You create a Mii (avatar) and then store your settings under the Mii. You’ll see mine below:

My Wii Mii - TD

You can have your Mii “travel” to other people’s consoles and allow other Mii to travel onto yours. We haven’t seen any stranger Mii stop by yet. Mii campers alert?

You’ve got a Wii, now what?
Wait for the internet connectivity? I was a bit disappointed to learn that they don’t have the full Opera browser operational yet so I can search, surf and read RSS feeds. I haven’t found out how soon that will be coming, anybody know when?

Wii.com lists as “coming soon” with no other details. They show the News Channel will be coming January 27, 2007 and the Forecast Channel coming December 20, 2006. I hope the Internet Channel hits before both of them, we can get the news and weather from a zillion websites.
