Ah-ha! The newest version of the plugin (6.8) has issues displaying the player by default in some layouts. I rolled the main files back to the previous version (6.7) and everything works just fine!

Now that i realize that your site is in WordPress there are all sorts of little tricks i hope to pick up :)

Sorry for the off-topic comment, but i'm really stuck on getting PodPress to show the player by default in my posts.

I tried checking "Display Player/Preview" in the PodPress settings, but it doesn't do anything for me - i still have to click "Show Player" when the post loads. Did you have to do any special hacking to make it work for you, or just check the box for "Display Player/Preview" ?

I'm super-excited to have this feature on my blog - thank you for the inspiration!
