O.J Simpson to outrageously squeeze “If I Did It” book on sale November 30

health and lifestyle — by TDavid @ 8:52 am PST

Update November 20, 2006 4:56pm PST: Responding to the firestorm of protest, Rupert Murdoch has cancelled the airing of this TV show. The book will still go on sale as scheduled.

11/21/2006 6:24am PST: No, the book is also being cancelled according to MSNBC:

HarperCollins spokeswoman Erin Crum said some copies had already been shipped to stores but would be recalled, and all copies would be destroyed. Should any turn up, they will become instant collectors’ items.

No idea if this “destroyed” book will surface on the web. I’d lay odds that it will. As I said in the commentary below, I hope if it does that the Goldman family benefits and not OJ.

OJ Simpson to appear on FOX to promote his new book: 'If I Did It'

I heard about this story awhile back and didn’t believe it, much like the verdict of the trial. With the National Enquirer involved (?), skepticism is almost always warranted. Unfortunately the date is drawing nearer and it appears the following event really is going to happen.

OJ Simpson, former NFL football star and actor and accused murderer found innocent by jury of his peers, may have the biggest gonads on the planet. On November 27 and 28 he’ll be on Fox promoting his new book available November 30 called: If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened:

the network said in a statement. “In the two-part event, Simpson describes how he would have carried out the murders he has vehemently denied committing for over a decade.”

I did some quick searching this morning and couldn’t locate a link to Simpson’s book on Amazon with the title “If I Did it.” Anybody else with a link? Feel free to use the comments below to share.

Johnny Cochran the famous attorney and leader of the Dream Team who defended Simpson went to his grave believing his client was innocent:

Before his death at 67, Mr Cochran said that he had had no regrets about the “not guilty” verdict, and that he still believed Mr Simpson’s version of events on the night his former wife died

Seriously, is there anybody alive on the planet, besides the jury who acquitted him, that believes Simpson didn’t literally get away with murder? I wonder if the jurors still believe he’s innocent? I know the trial was made to be about race more than murder and I understand these concerns, despite my skin being white. I’m sure that innocent african americans are still being prosecuted some 11+ years later, but I don’t believe — even a little bit — that O.J was persecuted because of his race. I didn’t buy that defense back then, and don’t today. Do I think Mark Fuhrman said some racist things? Absolutely. Maybe there were racist cops involved in the case, but the facts are the facts.

And I think more of the facts of what really happened that horrible night came to light in the civil trial where O.J didn’t get a free pass.

Or did he?

It sure seems like his lifestyle hasn’t exactly been ruined since the financial judgements came down against him. I’ve seen stories of him playing golf and smiling for the cameras and they make me cringe.

So why am I promoting Simpson’s activities if I find the guy subhuman trash? Because I want him to make a ton of money — it’s being reported that he’s being paid $3.5 million for this book — hopefully only to have it impounded by the courts (thrill of victory, agony of defeat) and sent to the Goldman family. Along with Simpson’s children who lost their mother, they continue to be victims to Simpson’s completely insensitive, bizarre commercial activity. A compassionate human being would have gone underground and disappeared, but instead Simpson wants to do moronic things like writing hypothetical books and giving interviews on FOX describing what “might have” happened that fateful night that Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered.

Double jeopardy laws mean Simpson could come out and actually admit — no hypothesis — he murdered them and not have legal problems. I wonder how much time will pass before Simpson finally confesses to the murders?

Time to replay the trials of 1995. Do you think someday Simpson will confess to the murders? Do you think he really did it? Or do you think that an innocent man has been and continues to be wrongly villified? Why/why not?

Update 8:30am PST: Barbara Walters on the Howard Stern show this morning said she turned down giving this interview.

  1. I assumed that this nasty piece of business is actually a response to the relative lien on Simpson’s cash flow imposted by the Goldman civil verdict - like, “Fine, you want my money, have money i earned by sensationalizing the death of your family member.” And, yes, i was wondering about the Double Jeopardy aspect earlier. Although i think if Simpson admitted it outright someone in a nation filled with lawyers would find a loophole to avoid the jeopardy, and then he’d be screwed. Still, this is practically admitted it, isn’t it?

  4. The jurors didn’t necessarily think O.J. was innocent, they were instructed by Judge Ito that they must acquit the defendant if there was any reasonable doubt that he was guilty. Johnnie Cochran used Simpson’s dramatic and unsuccessful attempt to put on the bloody glove to great effect, although prosecutor Christopher Darden raised questions about that as well.
