I’ll be muting Vista’s start-up sound, you? |
Just listened to the sound clip of Vista’s new start up tune.
Some musicians spend 18 months working on a whole album. At Microsoft Corp., that’s how long it took to perfect just four seconds of sound.
Sounds like a droid malfunction to me. 18 months of Robert Fripp’s artistic vision and passion, only to be disemboweled by a Microsoft committee. Amen, Scoble. Amen.
Rob Bushway at Gottabemobile is being too nice saying:
It isn’t what I expected, but I actually like the start-up sound - it sounds fresh, perky, almost like a “new day”
It’s exactly what I expected: a waste of time, energy and money. I was exhaused after hearing the sound the first time. I don’t like the existing start-up sound either, so I’m not being an XP holdout. One of the first things I’ll be doing is disabling the Vista sound scheme. I don’t care for any of that sound clip noise while working. Nothing against sound scheme fans, but my speakers are for music, talk radio, anything really except for sound schemes. Hey, check this out, click on this and it makes a farting noise!

What do you think of the new Vista start-up sound? Do you have a custom sound scheme on your computer?
Did this post make you go hmm?

If I have to have a Windows machine on, or rebuilt or what not, one of the first things I do is kill all the sounds. Last thing you want to hear when you’re around computers your whole life is the startup sound. I really don’t know anyone that really “likes” it but some users just don’t know how to get rid of it. (I know it’s not hard, but we’re talking about computer illiterates here).

Yeah darkmoon, that “tick” sound when you click on stuff should be enough to drive anybody to Google to figure out how. To. Make. It. Stop.
Click, click, click …

Here’s a YouTube video comparing all the XP sounds to all the new Vista sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05gheT0hKSs
I couldn’t stand most of them. They sounded like a really bad muted trumpet.
I still like: http://www.whitwell.ndo.co.uk/musicthing/sounds/macstartup.mp3
