I think that is what made the police quest ones a bit different was actually having some scenarios that you had to complete in a certain amount of time.

Although come to think of it Space Quest probably helped a bit too because the early text parsers it used were a bit lousy and you pretty much needed to work out the exact sentence construction. Which was more fun if you could type quickly...

Of course they also taught me the difference between New Zealand and American spelling :-(

Ahh yes, that makes sense, although I don't remember many of the text games requiring speedy typing. Those text based thinking adventure games were a lot of fun. I also liked the choose your own adventure books.

Thats the one! Its from the good old days of adventure gaming when all your actions (other than walking) were via typing in commands.

Because of the amount of typing and rephrasing required you became really good at typing.
There were also a couple of sequences (like the arrest of a particular driver) where if you didn't complete all the actions within a certain amount of time you got toasted.

The Kings Quest series also needed typing for about the first 4 but for some reason were never quite as good at developing my typing...

Hello iiq374 - you talking about this Police Quest? I never played that one, does it have some sort of typing game component?
