Most significant flooding since 1995 in greater Seattle area |

Here in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area it’s a real mess on the roads out there. Note the road in the picture above is almost completely submerged forcing cars to drive on one side of the road.

KOMO is reporting this is shaping to be the worst rainstorm in the area since 1995:
How wet? In the western Washington lowlands, we’re expecting 2-6″ of rain, and upwards of 5-10″ in the Cascades and perhaps over 9-10″ in the Olympics. For perspective, we usually get about 6″ for the entire month of November, and most of Seattle’s Top 10 wettest days ever are around 3″. (The record being 5.02″, set in October of 2003.) Snow levels are up around 10,000 feet, so it’s all falling as rain up there.

The appropriately named Seahawks are the Monday night NFL game tonight and there is no cover to protect the game. It could be a major soggy affair for both players and fans if the rain doesn’t let up.

It’s a real hard, pounding almost violent rain. I became almost completely drenched walking across the Costco parking lot a little earlier. They just let our kids out of school here. We live fairly close to the Puyallup River which has flood warnings already in place. Our home isn’t right on the river so we’re probably ok, but the roads are already getting messy in the neighborhood.
Did this post make you go hmm?

Yeah, it’s a mess over here on Bainbridge, too. Halley didn’t even want to go out for our run this morning. She was sleeping by the heater I put out for her in the garage, and when I came out she just looked up at me with one eye as if to say, “Are you serious?”
We’ve got 100-foot-plus cedars and hemlocks around our house, swaying in the winds. My wife worries that the roots are getting too soggy and we might have some of them come down. That could get ugly indeed.

Batten down the hatches, Sterling!

Down here in Toledo, it’s been coming down hard. I heard some branches cracking when I was out earlier, and my Eucalyptus tree tipped over.
Molly, my peke, had a similar reaction to Sterling’s Halley. I had to carry her out to the grass. She wasn’t going to leave the porch. I heard the Cowlitz is going to be pretty deep. Hope I can get to the freeway in the morning!
