Google going about 30 percent solar and other Goonews |
I remember reading awhile back that power was one of Google’s main challenges. Going at least partially solar-powered should be no surprise for the big G:
The panels will cover the roofs of the four main buildings of the Googleplex, and also those of two additional buildings across the street. There will also be a portion of this installation on new solar panel support structures in a few parking lots. The amount of electricity that will be generated is equivalent to powering about 1,000 average California homes. We’ll use that electricity to power several of our Mountain View office facilities, offsetting approximately 30% of our peak electricity consumption at those buildings.
In other Goonews, Nathan collected a bunch of humorous video responses to Google purchasing YouTube. My favorite of the bunch is below:
Speaking of Adsense, John Chow has compiled a big list of Adsense alternatives.
Starting this weekend I’m going to use Microsoft Live search for at least one week for all the searches I’d normally be performing with Google and then compare to Google. I’ll share back my findings in a future post here. I’ve been saying for awhile that I don’t think any other search compares to Google and it’s time to put those thoughts to a real world test.
Give me back my Google attempts to strip out affilliate spam in Google [via John]
Youtube has offered the owner of the domain utube.com one million bucks and they are holding out for $2.5 million according to PVR Wire. Utube.com buckled under the traffic load of people thinking their site was the one bought by Google. There is a lesson here in that if you have a site with the word “you” in it to also buy the domain with “u” (in case anybody is curious, makeugohmm.com leads here too).
