1000+ free audiobooks |

How many of you listen to audiobooks? That’s how we first enjoyed the Da Vinci Code over a long car trip. We also bought Deception Point by Dan Brown on audio CD and I’m looking forward to hearing that.
Classic audiobooks
There comes a point when you get tired of listening to music and would like to hear a story. Yesterday I downloaded and burned to CD audiobooks that we can take along with us on our car trips (we’re on one as you read this if it’s close to publishing time). A gold mine of classic stories on audio is audiobooksforfree.com which offers free 8kb versions on MP3 of esteemed authors like Rudyard Kipling, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Jack London, Edgar Allan Poe and many, many more. You can get higher bit versions by paying (16k-$3, 24k-$5, 32k-$6 or 48k for $7) via Worldpay or PayPal or purchase every book in their database on 9 DVDs for $100 USD.
Podiobooks
For more current audio content the podcast scene has produced podiobooks.com which are essentially the same type of stories on audio, only delivered via RSS. You can, however, use a site like podiobooks, register for free, find stories you’re interested in, subscribe, and then “release all” to be able to download the entire book in audio chapters.
Did this post make you go hmm?

I have dyslexa and can’t imagine how it would be to read a book. Only for the last few years have I started listening to audio books and it is wonderful.

It surprises me how many people are still oblivious to the availability and range of freely available audiobooks, whether classics or by modern independent authors. Perhaps it’s a little of the perception that free means poor quality.
Great to see you are promoting free audiobooks!
