Sirius Starmate ReplayEarlier today we finally purchased satellite radio. We went with Sirius primarily because they have the NFL. We bought the Starmate Replay ($84.99 USD) with the home kit ($39.99).

Our very first channel presets and subject to great change:

Sirius Starmate Replay124 - NFL Radio
019 - BuzzSaw. Good mix of hard rock music.
100 - Howard Stern. This will be our first time listening to Howard Stern (regularly, anyway). Looking forward to seeing if he’s what his fans say he is: all the rage.
103 - Blue Collar Comedy. Got to have a little humor and getting used to hearing profanity. So used to listening to terrestrial radio that I’m not used to the F bombs (yet). I’ll get there.
006 - 60s music
007 - 70s music
008 - 80s music
009 - 90s music

Twilight Zone on 118
As I’m writing this I just stumbled on Twilight Zone “What You Need” on channel 118 on Radio Classics [full channel schedule]. Oh yeah, my guilty pleasure.

For all the Sirius veterans
What are your favorite channels on Sirius? Something good we should be checking out? I’m going to be doing research over the next few days listening while working. I’m a big radio fan, still listening to terrestrial radio via the RadioSHARK.

  1. Welcome to satellite radio TDavid! I’ve had mine for close to a year and I don’t think I could ever switch back to regular radio. I’m a member of the XM nation, so I can’t give you any suggestions on what channels to listen to, but what I like to do is listen for a few hours of a new station every week. There really is allot of content on both Sirius and XM, so I subscribed to the XM email newsletter and it tells you the highlights and events that are coming up for that week. I’m sure Sirius has the same feature, so I would recommend signing up for that if they have one. Also there are Sirius fan forums (XM also), where there are discussions on the newest hardware, rumors, new and channel programming.

I love my XM, and I hardly ever listen to regular radio much anymore, just for the occasional local talk show. ;)

  2. Cool tip on the newsletter, orangecrush, thanks! It appears Sirius has some newsletters too, so I checked the boxes for the goods.

  3. […] As mentioned Sunday, our family is now Sirius satellite subscribers and the last couple days I’ve been wading through the channels, learning how to use the Starmate Replay (STH2). This morning I’ve read that they are offering internet subscriptions — no radio required — for the same $12.95/month. Some colorful commentary at Digg including a comment that this doesn’t work outside the US (yes/no?). […]

  5. […] Despite all the content the internet offers, I still listen to terrestrial radio, particularly in the car, although with our recent addition of Sirius satellite admittedly less than before. We don’t have Sirius satellite hardwired, so I need transfer the Starmate Replay from home to car. My son has the new Sirius Stiletto 100, but that doesn’t have an FM transmitter, so it’s not available in the car either. Also, we don’t have satellite radio in both our vehicles and, similar to satellite TV, the local broadcast isn’t available. Although with satellite TV you can buy local channels, you can’t get them with XM or Sirius. Take the Seahawks game for example, I greatly prefer the local hometown broadcast on KIRO710 versus the national broadcast that’s being played on Sirius. […]

  6. […] I finally joined the satellite radio movement in September 2006. Our oldest son has the Stiletto 100 and enjoys channel 19, BuzzSaw (rock). We’ll be keeping our two satellite subscriptions into 2007, so the next time somebody says who would pay for radio you have at least one name. I’d rather pay for satellite radio than TV because radio is something I can enjoy while working. I enjoy terrestrial radio too but the signal is pretty spotty at home and our offices. TV is much too distractive, unfortunately. 7. […] Our family started a Sirius satellite radio subscription in September 2006 and I’ve enjoyed listening to NFL and Howard Stern, plus a few of the music channels. Is it worth approximately $200 a year for two subscriptions? We renewed the first quarter anyway. One for a Sirius Starmate radio that works in the home or car via FM transmitter, the other for my son’s Stiletto 100. I know he’s controversial, but Howard Stern does some excellent radio. As mentioned here before, it’s easier for me to follow radio than TV while working and the terrestrial radio in our area is spotty, at best, so paying for satellite radio is worth it to us. We haven’t fully explored all channels, just like TV, but at least my son and I are enjoying what Sirius offers. The next time you hear or see somebody say who will pay for radio, point them here. 8. I am a huge Sirius fan! I’ve been a subscriber for over 3 years now, and I’m still in love. I bought the Lifetime Subscription a year ago, and I really wonder how that is going to work if the companies merge. hmmmm….

  9. Well should be for the lifetime of your radio, Mark, regardless of the merger which is still actually a good year away IF it is approved by the regulatory agencies.
