Star Wars suckers |

As mentioned back in May and in case you missed it — and no self-respecting Star Wars junkies would — on Tuesday George Lucas found yet another creative way to get into our wallets anew: by releasing the limited edition original theatrical version of Star Wars IV, V and VI. Only available for a mere three months and then back to the vaults. Hopefully not for another 20+ years. And while at it, don’t forget the Star Wars II LEGO game for the Xbox 360, although that isn’t a limited edition.
I don’t know why Hollywood is so worried that they can’t make money. They should just follow the Lucasfilms DVD model. Edit the movie for DVD so fans talk about it and demand the original. Oh, the injustice. Free publicity, additional versions. Now that we have the original theatrical version, how long before the director’s cut of the original theatrical version? And then maybe can get lost footage from the gaffer or perhaps the footage from the guy who used to pound nails with Harrison Han Solo Ford. Or maybe they could go viral on YouTube with that stuff to pump up sales. Never say die to a good movie property.
One thing that surprised me a bit is not seeing these versions on either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Are they being released on either of those formats? I could have poked around the web and looked, but anybody know off hand?
Did this post make you go hmm?

*nods head in agreement* he got my money too!!! but I got OB1 from BKing and now he needs a date…….. he is such a good guy!!! CHEWY!!

i am as big a star wars fan as the next geek, but i passed this time. it wasn’t easy, but i just couldn’t do it. star wars lego II is undoublty a great game, but i can wait until it’s a greatest hit.
but the movies- i remembered when the vhs days were in full force, and they told us all it was our last chance to purchase the classic trilogy- which months later we found out to mean that the special editions were being released, and would replace those tapes in our collections after their theater run.
so, i’m not going to believe these limited editions are our last chance to own these versions of the movie, considering what i read at digitalbits:
“2007, as you may well be aware, is the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars’ debut in theaters. You’d have to be stupid not to know that Lucasfilm is going to have big DVD release plans with which to celebrate the anniversary, and we’ve been telling you that was the case for many months now.
Indeed, during our last visit to the Ranch for the DVD release of Episode III, producer Rick McCallum confirmed that a box set of all six films was going to happen eventually, and animation director Rob Coleman even let it slip that the puppet Yoda from Episode I had already been replaced with a new CG Yoda to match Episodes II & III for the “future” release. T-Bone over at Star Wars Universe recently speculated about this box set, and we’ve been quietly checking in with our industry sources on it as well.
Well, we’ve confirmed it: There IS a big, ultimate, 6-film Star Wars anniversary DVD box set planned for 2007. There will be more changes to the films, and there will be LOTS of new, never-before-seen special features - all the good stuff that was held back by Lucasfilm from the original Trilogy DVD release a few years ago. Think deleted scenes and more. We don’t know if good, genuinely-REMASTERED versions of the original theatrical editions of the films will be included or not (though how you could call the set “ultimate” without them, we don’t know). We don’t expect high-definition versions yet, as those formats are just too new. We don’t have ANY other details for you yet, so please don’t ask. But as you consider whether or not to purchase the “limited edition” DVDs due on 9/12… we thought you should know that more IS absolutely on the way next year. ‘Nuff said for now.”

I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I am passing on these discs.
If they aren’t anamorphic then what’s the use if I am watching them on a 16×9 TV? All I can do is zoom the picture and lose even more resolution!
Don’t hold your breath for either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. They probably won’t go to that until they have completely drained the DVD market. Look how long it took for them to come out on DVD to begin with.
CinemaxHD will be showing them in HD starting in November though. They will be the special edition versions and a run on sister network HBOHD is almost certain.

I preffer the 1997 special editions of episode 4 and 5 to the 2004 ones. The reason is they’re closer to the original cuts, while just having new detail added.Take the noise Obi-Wan makes to scare away the sand people or Luke saying to R2 You were lucky to get out of there.
I own Empire(1997)on DVD in PERFECT print.
I was unable to purchase episode for on the 1997 version on DVD so I just bought the 2004 version. As for episode 6,I bought the limkited edition because I wanted the movie by itself instead of the 2004 trilogy.
I had viewed some deleted scenes from the original trilogy online, which was later blocked by lucas films.I hope to see them on blu-ray hopefully.I’d see them first before buying them.

I still have my special editions and originals on VHS. However, I purchased the special edition dvd’s, as well as this re-released trilogy box set.
(What a galactically big waste of money, right?)
Well, I’m going to pass em on to the kids some day, anyway.
