In a theme that seems to continue — and I like — the resurgence of classic videogaming, it’s good to see Midway release six of their games online (free shockwave plugin required) to play in the browser window via Midway Arcade Treasures Online. The 10 games you can play include: Bubbles, Defender, Defender II, Joust, Rampage, Robotron 2084, Satan’s Hollow, Sinistar, Spyhunter and Tapper. Most of these are unplayable with keyboard, but Midway gets my vote for effort. Not sure if you can plug a joystick in and play with that. I wonder how many of these will eventually end up on Xbox Live Arcade? Joust and Robotron 2084 are already there and Defender has been rumored as in the pipeline.

Note the version of Tapper online is the lame Root Beer Tapper, not the tasty Budweiser one (too bad) that was originally in the arcade including the innovative tapper joystick. Now there would be a collector’s item as only 3,300 were originally made.
