Stingrage |
Blogcritic Joan Hunt has a good writeup on how PETA has behaved after Steve Irwin’s death.
But wait, it gets worse.
Are some mentally unbalanced Steve Irwin fans screaming for vengeance against the stingrays?
That’s the question numerous headlines are asking as the timing of the following animal cruelty seems all too suspect. Authorities aren’t so quick to blame.
At least ten stingrays have been found dead and mutilated on Australian shores, their tails hacked off in apparent acts of retribution.
I wonder how long these creatures will remain docile if idiots continue to resort to this savagery. The Crocodile Hunter would have gone ballistic if he knew these animals were being hunted, abused and killed by anybody. What’s wrong with some people out there? Leave the stringrays alone. They aren’t predators. If/when I do go swimming in shallow waters among stingrays, I don’t want to have visions of Jaws dancing in my head. I’ve been caught up in this human story like many others but this is a dark and disturbing twist.
And now I hope to stop writing, really, about stingrays before this blog becomes Stingrays That Make You Go Hmm. I sure hope Peter Benchley fresh idea in head, isn’t tapping away on his keyboard …
Update 9:30am PST: Someone created a Flash game called Terri Irwin’s Revenge which pits a female scuba diver against a bunch of stingrays shooting white barbs.

Currently the most popular flash game on 13gb. Only on the web!
Did this post make you go hmm?

Well you gotta figure that with 8 billion people on the planet there has to be at least several people stupid enough to do any particular thing.

To reinforce your comments about Steve’s outrage if he knew, it was well known over here that SI had always informed his cameramen to “keep rolling regardless of what happens”.
He was well aware of the risks that he took and that it may not be the most obvious thing that would get him in the end - but he loved what he did and the causes that he did it for enough to want there to be no mystery.
Of course I couldn’t stand him personally I found him way too over the top and somewhat whiny.
