Say"I think the most important thing if you are going to work from home is a *DEDICATED* office is a must. Still won’t stop all the downsides of working from home making the seperation difficult but without it then madness is almost guaranteed" ver good post.

My daily commute time one way is about 1 hour. It is a long long drive every day. I don't really look at it as a waste of time though. I found a good way to make it productive (see signature link). I posted all the ways I blow the time there.

My commute is about an hour and 45 minutes each way; 20 - 30 minute drive to train, one hour train ride, 20 minute walk to the office. We moved a considerable distance from Boston in order to afford a condo. I try to use the time productively, but it still has a huge impact on my quality of life.

Depends on the method I pick on the day:
walking 20minutes, biking 10 minutes, car 2mins.

My commute is 40min one way! Thats roughly 15 days on the road ;(
I couldn't work from home, I wouldn't get anything done. But I sure would like to shorten this commute!

I love working from home. My office is way at one end of the house, and I just don't go there when I'm in down time.

...and I really should have read your post before commenting, and not just your discussion here in the comments!

-For years I’ve been dividing my office time between our home office and office on main street for our offline business and frankly prefer to work out of a regular office (Mon-Fri 9-5) than an office in our home. Why? You never really escape work if it’s out of your home and also I like seeing people on a regular basis doing face to face business.-

And the above is exactly why I like being in an office.....it drove me crazy working from home, because I never could really get away from work....for example, if I would think of something work-related at 2am when I couldn't sleep, I would get up and take care of it, check email, and before I knew it, I had been up and working for 3 more hours...

I'll pass on that, and I did!

Since I moved from the west side to the east side, my commute has dropped from an hour, to about 10 minutes, no traffic!

Love it, love it, love it.

Side note - worked out of my home for about a year, and hated it....I like being around people too much, as I discovered, and had a hard time with the fact that I had to leave my house, to leave work!

My commute is about 15 seconds: from the kitchen (after breakfast) down the hall and to my office.
