Some people go fishing, but we all know what Trekkers do. Cheapest I’ve seen Star Trek The Original Series for at Costco today: $44.99. We had season one but there was no way I was paying $100 or more for the remaining seasons so I’ve been waiting in the weeds to see a better deal to complete the set. For those without a Costco hookup, then Amazon has Season 1, 2 and 3 for $69.98 each as of this writing or all three for all three seasons for $149.

At Costco we also saw the Ultimate Gaming Arcade Box and almost pulled the trigger. For two grand 100+ arcade games in a professionally constructed arcade box with joystick, buttons and trackball. Costco online shows the price as $2,299 with shipping & handling included, but the local Costco in Puyallup had three of them (including the demo unit) for $1,999 — you haul it home. Costco online also has a Namco arcade cabinet with Pac-Man, Ms. Pac Man and Galaga for $2,599. And for the budget arcade Midway cabinet which contains: Joust, Defender, Bubbles, Splat, Rootbeer Tapper (sad, where is the real Tapper!), Timber, Robotron, Rampage, Wizard of Wor, Sinstar, Satans Hollow and Defender II for $449. From the pictures on the website it’s hard to tell what the construction is like. Might be cheesy.

Somebody will probably point out that you can get all these on your video game system or computer by going the MAME route (legally if you already own the ROM) plus building your own cabinet for less. The cabinet with arcade game I continue to look for is Star Castle.

We paid the extra money and are now Costco Executive Members ($100) which means we’re earning 2% back on our purchases. They told us we need to spend at least $2,500 to make it worthwhile over the basic ($50) membership. The check is supposed to come with the annual renewal notice. Any readers that are Costco members (basic or executive)?

Ok, got a date with those troubling Tribbles. Hope all your weekends are going well.
