Mariners drop 10 in a row, Moyer traded to Phillies |
Can regular season NFL get here any sooner?
The Seattle Mariners are in a miserable skid at the moment and can’t seem to beat anybody in their own division. When they score some runs, the other teams score more, when the other teams score less the Mariners come up zeroes. It’s an ugly thing to watch. Rather in my case since we have now been without TV for 60+ days, to listen to on the radio.
Jamie Moyer has a no trade clause which means he has to ok any trade. Last year he said no to a trade, but this year he did and was traded last night to his hometown Phillies in exchange for two young arms. The Mariners will miss Moyer but I’m not sure he’ll miss their lack of run support for him.
The Seattle PI also notes that Manager Mike Hargrove now has four 10+ losing streaks with teams he’s managed with the other three belonging to his time with the Orioles. I haven’t been impressed with Mike Hargrove as a manager. Whenever I think of him, I think of those seasons in Cleveland where he had the Indians in the playoffs and didn’t finish. Five times to the playoffs and two world series appearances. Hargrove’s lifetime managerial record in baseball is right around .500. It’s not all Hargrove’s fault the Mariners suck this year, but I’m not convinced he’s the right kind of manager for the Mariners. Certainly not with this season. I’d like to see somebody with a little more zest like sweet Lou.
Seattle is already marred by a reputation as the little engine in the Northwest that couldn’t in professional sports. Probably our most shining achievement historically in these parts have been the Sonics and we may lose the team to somewhere in the midwest.
The Seahawks got to the Superbowl last year and a friend of mine told me this year they will be better. When we were down in Nevada on vacation I put some money on them to go all the way, which was 5:1 odds. Go Seahawks!
I’m ready for football. Bring it.

Me too, TDavid. The Mariners are leaving a bad taste in my mouth, and getting rid of Moyer makes it that much worse. AFAIK, Ichiro is the last remaining player from 2001 — they’re just not the same team anymore. Especially without Lou.
I sure hope the Seahawks can get out from under that Northwest cloud and bring home the Lombardi.

Not sure if you listen to KIRO 710 AM, Sterling, but Dori Monson is just now talking about Jamie Moyer leaving with fans.

I don’t usually listen to the radio unless the Mariners aren’t being carried on TV or I’m driving. But that comment rings true. The current state of affairs resembles the end of that old movie “How I Won the War”, where all of the original soldiers have been replaced by plastic toy soldiers.

If you are looking for something to pipe local radio into your computer, along with PVR features, check out the RadioShark. Works with Mac and Windows. We don’t get the best radio reception here but it does a decent job. It’s how I listen to almost all the Mariners games.
Turns out it’s another hour for the Jamie Moyer stuff. His wife Karen will be calling in Dori said a little bit ago.
