- How many new domains are registered every day? (**4) [july 31]
“There’s a lot of evidence that most of these domains are registered for less than five days, before the registrant dumps them, requests a refund, then re-registers them.”

“…This stuff is great - I’ve never had to work with such a large database before and am learning a ton about SQL.”
– Comment by Greg Yardley — August 8, 2006 @ 1:45 pm“…Regarding feed volume, I’m starting to get weary of BoingBoing’s volume, even though a lot of what they post is interesting. I couldn’t help noticing they aren’t in your list above.”

- Transparent Adsense posts (**7) [aug 8]
“The Adsense code was put there as an experiment to see what kind of ads it would draw - nothing more sinister than that. You are correct though, it does look bad and was probably naive on my part so I have removed it. Thanks for pointing it out so quickly - if you hadn’t it would have remained there and I would have looked bad for longer.”

- Sony starting to look like Sega (**10) [aug 10]
“After reading your blog, I’m not certain you understand the main reason why Sega failed as a console maker. Sega attempted to segment the video game market with the Sega CD, 32X, 32X CD and the Saturn. Sega’s 32X debacle was the beginning of the end for Sega. They abandoned their so-called next generation 32X system as soon as they introduced the Saturn. Sega had no respect for gamers and tried to get every penny from loyalist as they could…”

- What do you unplug when you leave home? (**8) [aug 11]
“I think it’s a good idea. You are right about things being plugged in continuing to draw power. So unplugging everything you can not only saves money, it is good for the environment. I have not been doing this since I didn’t know that things being plugged in still used power, but I plan to start.”
– Comment by Lori — August 11, 2006 @ 9:02 pm“The only things I leave on are the burglar alarm, the fridge, (depending on season) the heating, the adsl modem/router and a NAS with a (secured) ftp server to upload backups of photos too and which contains scans of all important docs like passport, travel docs, insurance etc.”
– Comment by David — August 12, 2006 @ 12:01 pm“According to the article, the xbox 360 consumes around $2.63 per year when it’s turned off.. Maybe not a big deal for 1 person, but imagine how much power these consoles waste when you apply these numbers to 1, 2 or 3 million units. This says a lot about the North American lifestyle.”
