Hmm quickies #36: dreaming of Jeannies

Tablet PC, linkdump — by TDavid @ 12:27 am PST

I Dream of Jeannie Season 1 on DVD

Time to break from this mass RSS reading catchup campaign — still feeling like I’m running on a treadmill — to go watch some of season one of I Dream of Jeannie - The Complete First Season (affiliate, Black & White). I totally groove on classic black and white TV shows. Amazon is selling the colorized version too for a little more money but there’s something just wrong about watching a show that was originally released in black and white being colorized. In the meantime, here’s a few more things I came across today:

- Apple released a sneak peek at what will be released in Leopard (OS X 10.5) in Spring 2007. Time Machine is an automated backups system as well as providing something like System Restore on Windows. Create alternate backdrops in iChat video. Organize windows into groups with Spaces. Haven’t seen any one irresistably cool new feature yet, but I’m positive Apple isn’t playing all its cards. Wired descrived Steve Jobs speech as underwhelming. I’ll be ready next Spring and this time I’ll get the timing of the release correct.
- for those Mac users who want a Time Machine-esq backup feature earlier, and for free, Gerald points to rsyncx.
- Ruby in Steel is a Ruby in Rails IDE add-in for Visual Studio 2005. Downloaded.
- The Mars24 sunclock is a Java applet that tells the current time on Mars. I’m not a big java fan, but that could be an interesting way to represent time on a space/technology-oriented blog. It’s currently 12:12pm Mars time … [thanks Download Squad]
- With no exceptions immediately coming to mind, I dislike when people/companies try to rebrand themselves. Kanoodle is now Seevast? Why? Has there ever been a single, successful rebranding campaign? I’m sure there has been, but I can’t think of one of those either. Maybe you, kind reader, can point to some good examples of successful rebranding? To me rebranding is too much like they trying to escap negativity — or worse than negativity: disinterest — surrounding the original brand. You don’t get a second first impression, sorry.
- Telecommuting air hockey? Wouldn’t something like this be cool over XBox Live? I’ve been fond of physical games like Dance Dance Revolution. Work out while you have fun, what a combination.
- Maybe it’s time for me to try ink blogging again using Sumocat’s link in ink image generator. Problem with ink or any sort of picture blog is they are non-searchable and not accessible for the sight impaired, so you almost need to do two versions for an ink blog. Add to this the most negative factor that my handwriting is practically illegible. These three things have stopped me from seriously pursuing ink blogging beyond my crink (crappy ink) drawings. Gotta Be Mobile has a podcast with Sumocat (they call it an “audio inkcast”), billing him as “The Father of Ink Blogging.” A little over the top guys, ink blogging might be exciting and geeky to tableteers but it isn’t going to change the world … or will it? Now if Ghandi had sported a Tablet PC who knows? [tongue firmly in cheek]
- Come on, know you wanted to learn how to make something besides a rabbit in the shadows on the wall. Elephants, dolphins, pigs, turtles, you can be the life of the next boring meeting. [Source: Project Gutenberg by Henry Bursill]
- 39 free downloadable Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
- A list of front page dugg Flash games via diggpuzzles.com. Breaktime wasters. I’m going to need this after reading thousands of posts.
- schedule a computer to call you at some point in the future with callthefuture.org. Could be useful for goal review reminders and checkpoints.
- TiVO series 2 receivers are going to be available through Radio Shack. One dog plus another dog equals two dogs, not one stallion. Radio Shack is great for odds and ends electronics, but who is going to shop there for TiVO?
- Scratch the odds on Niall Kennedy replacing Scoble as Microsoft’s primary blogger. He’s quitting to go do his own startup. Good luck Niall. Perhaps less job security in the short term, but more security if his startup does well. I think I need to add Major Nelson to the blogger pool, as he’s got a huge, loyal following and in retrospect should have been on that list. Microsoft has had a bad year for “I’m quitting” stories. Favorite title I’ve seen of somebody describing Niall’s departure: ” PHIBBBTTTT!! Microsoft Gushing Talent
- Tweak 3D has some good suggestions for how to speed up your old Windows XP machine. The instructions include a handy hotkey combination to display the Windows System Properties menu with memory: Windows key + Pause/Break. Handy.

  2. Actually, I prefer the term “Ink Daddy”. :)

BTW, the Link in Ink generator is up to Build 52! Okay, not really, that’s just what I call it, but it looks better now and it includes directions. http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2006/07/build-52-is-go.html

And thanks for recognizing the extra effort I must put forth to make my blog searchable.
