XBox Live Arcade: Pac-Man and Galaga follow-up |

Last night my favorite classic arcade game Pac-Man hit Xbox Live Arcade (XLA) for 400 Microsoft Points.

I don’t know how many times I’ve bought this game over the years going all the way back to the most craptastic version ever on the Atari 2600, but it’s been a lot. Just can’t get enough of that yellow pill-popping dude. And add two more purchases for both our Xbox 360 last night. Since there is no multiplayer I’m not sure why we needed to do that, but our kids are all too eager to spend the Microsoft Points. Next week I heard a rumor that Texas Hold ‘Em Poker might be coming out, can any reader confirm/deny this? I already told both kids we won’t be buying that game. I don’t want them becoming poker hounds and neither my wife or I are poker players.
Galaga glitches
Before vacation I finally snatched a few extra minutes to play Galaga and share Ken’s frustrations:
Starting a game takes forever, and restarting a game after you die takes even longer.
This isn’t a problem with Pac-Man fortunately.
Would add to the XBLA Galaga complaints that there is at least one obvious glitch in the gameplay. A couple times I’ve shot the alien ship that holds my ship and it didn’t give me the double ship firepower. No, I realize if you shoot your own ship, you’ll lose the ship but a few times my own red ship has flown down at me like an alien ship when the ship below it has been destroyed. How could they miss this obvious bug?
I understand that we probably can’t have our cake and eat it too. If we are to receive new games weekly at Xbox Live Arcade where the budget is $100,000 instead of millions, there will probably be some more glitches and bugs, but I hope some fundamental and important gameplay items aren’t glitched. Hopefully they will be able to patch these games.

Also, the bug you described in Galaga was in the original version as well. Could it be the same one?

You sure about that? I don’t remember that ever happening and it happened several times with the Galaga in the Arcade. It’s rather easy to duplicate. This doesn’t appear to be a completely emulated version of the game, neither for Pac-Man because if you do the hide in the pixel space trick (hide just below and to the right of where you get fruit), the ghosts aren’t supposed to kill you whereas they do kill you on the XBLA version of Pac-Man.

[…] In addition to Pac-Man on Xbox Live also today the game Dead Rising (affiliate) for the Xbox 360 was released as a regular game. For those who despise violence in video games, do not watch the video below and you might want to turn down the volume a bit if it’s late at night. This would be a good one to watch in the dark. You’ve been warned! […]
