Something you probably won’t see on the Dell blog |

Class action lawsuit info via FMS: Washington State residents who bought a Dell computer with optional service contracts:
If you purchased certain optional service contracts for Dell-branded computer hardware between April 23, 1999 and February 1, 2005, and paid monies as “tax” for such service contracts, you may be eligible for a payment under the terms of the settlement, or you can exclude yourself from the settlement, or object to it.
My wife tells me she filled out something and sent it back already but I don’t think we are elligible because we almost never buy extended warranties. Other states could file similar class action suits so if you fit the description but don’t reside in Washington state this might still be a story worth following.
Dell didn’t keep the money, they paid it to Washington State, but the mistake is theirs and resulted in some $24 million dollars in overcharged sales taxes.
Will announcements like these make it to the new One2One Dell blog? If anything should generate a “direct conversation with Dell” this should.
How did this happen, Dell? Why? What will you do — or are you currently doing — to help get the word out?
Did this post make you go hmm?

I got the notice, too — but like you I never get the extended warranty.
If I were them, I would blog it. It would help the credibility of their blog immensely. They could start with the ‘oops’ section (describing how they fubar’ed), then follow with an apology and instructions for what to do if you didn’t get the notice but think you should.
Even Jarvis couldn’t rip them for that kind of openness.

BTW, did you see this? I bet after that hit the virtual presses, the Dell blogging team smacked their collective foreheads and said a few words that won’t be posted.

Yes, it was in the post about “sachs” being confused with “sex”.

Oh, I saw that one before you added the update. Sheesh, I thought for a minute you had caught me skimming

Ahh, that makes sense.
Here’s a tip for you: add the Hmm search to your searchbar (links are under the search box on the homepage for both IE and FF, or you can download the toolbar) and then just add the link in there really quick. That’s a tip for how I find out if somebody has written about something before on their blog. Works pretty slick if you strip down to the domain too, because then you can see how many articles/posts about a certain site.
