10 (deadly sins) ads in a single RSS feed post, get out of here |
I don’t mind an ad or two in blog posts and RSS feeds. Don’t mind multiple affiliate text links as long as they are tastefully implemented (definitely not those godawful intelliTXT double links that popup a window when you accidentally or intentionally hover over them). Really, I want blogger and blog publishers to make money, but there are limits for any reader. This morning the limit was reached with a feed I’ve enjoyed for awhile. I noticed the ads increasing and hoped it would subside …

I definitely mind 10 ads formatted as above in a single blog post. Read that again. 10 freaking ads! It’s like a call back to the days when people put only (affiliate) banners on pages. Many news sites today are completely contaminated with ads, with the added insult of forcing pagination after a couple small paragraphs of text, so let’s hope RSS feeds don’t become similarly tainted.
Worse yet, this feed is a podcast. Yeah, maybe I should be subscribing in something that only strips out the mp3 and doesn’t give me the text and graphic ad garbage above, but the podcast text recaps with links are often important accompanied.
Any blog publisher and blogger have to be high to think their readers will ever put up with that many ads in a single post in an RSS feed. This is a good, er, bad example of advertising inside an RSS feed on a single blog post
Adios.

[…] But don’t worry, nobody’s paying me to do this, in fact I even decided to removed the Google Adsense listings. Glad to see I’m not the only one who’s annoyed by inundation of tools and adverts in blogs and feeds. […]

[…] This post reminded me of my experience with another post from a different blog in my RSS reader recently and there are Things Not To Do lessons from both posts for fellow bloggers: 10 (deadly sins) ads in a single RSS feed post, get out of here. […]

SDR is a great podcast but Andy’s site is horrible. It’s almost impossible to find the link he mentioned in the ‘cast. Seems circa 1995.
