Emulating uncluttering the cluttered desk with BumpTop prototype |
My Windows desktop often gets cluttered. Tablet PC is a little cleaner than my main Windows machine but for whatever disorganized reason on my part, I tend to clutter the Windows desktop. I’ve tried various techniques to keep it uncluttered like a separate shortcut folder but so far haven’t found a really good solution to keep it clean.

BumpTop desktop prototype. Check out the movie pictured above of a desktop where icons could be stacked, fanned and rearranged like a real cluttered desktop. Imagine a desktop like this for the Tablet PC?
Rob Bushway is also impressed by this prototype and the possibilities.
The more I watch this video the more convinced I become that the 2D existing desktop is prehistoric. In the words of a Queen song and in reference to what I’m seeing here: I want it now.

I’ve had a little play around with the Sun / Java LG3D desktop and had similar thoughts.
Last time I played its video hardware support wasn’t very complete so ran pretty slow, although its had a number of releases since then so I’ve just downloaded to try again.
I’d recommend people at least trying the liveCD version of it - why not, nothing to install?
