You Are 24% Cynical

Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions.
You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you’re not anybody’s fool.

If some readers are interested what questions specifically I did not check, those are below along with further explanation. Take the test first before reading which boxes I checked. No cheating, now.

(And I’m also 24% cynical that most will read my answers before clicking the link above).

Last chance to click the link above before continuing.

Ok, one.

More.

Chance.

Unchecked
You’ve taken the test yourself? What did you score? Ok, onto my answers …

You put zero stock in astrology. Untrue, both my wife and I follow our signs. She’s a Sagitarius and I’m a Libra. My horoscope for today reads: Today’s a good time to take control. Push things in the direction you want to take. After hitting publish on this post I’m taking my wife to lunch. That’s control. I’ll direct my complaining stomach to some food.
In your opinion, all news is biased. In life I try to rarely paint with such large brushes. Words like all should be very carefully used. I do believe all people have biases but also think it’s possible that not all reporters report the news with their bias. Objective news is possible and is happening. Heck, look around the blogosphere for citizen media. Perhaps this is wrong, but I think at least the bloggers I read do a better job sharing their biases when reporting the news than mainstream media.
You don’t believe in fate, just coincidence. Wrong. I do believe in fate. I think it’s more than coincidence that I’m here writing this right now. Perhaps there is some greater reason, whatever it is, that I’m here and not somewhere else in the world right now. I suppose in a parallel world, I am somewhere else. And yes, I believe in parallel dimensions too.
You think popular music is purely a result of marketing - not talent. I almost agree with this one, but what I deem to be popular music isn’t in the mainstream. Popular music to me is what’s in my playlist and what I’m willing to buy. The vast majority of music I look to from year’s past, not current. I’m kind of twisting the question here, admittedly, I probably should have checked this box. Especially considering the American Idol trash.
Celebrity couples disgust you. They’re just shameless publicity hounds. I think the paparazzi and tabloids are more to blame than many of the celebrity couples. Who wants their every move caught in the camera eye? I am much, much more cynical about the press than the celebrites. For some of them this statement is true.
You think most charity organizations are cheating their benefactors somehow. No, I think some of the larger ones are too operational-heavy, yes, but “most”? No, I’m not that cynical. I would agree however if the statement said most charity organizations were not created for altruistic purposes. I think tax shelters are the reason many of these foundation and charities are setup, but that wasn’t the question.
Cultured people are just insecure snobs who need to feel superior. This is an offensive line of thinking to me. I believe most people are good and mean well. Insecure snobs would be something I’d attribute to spoiled rich offspring.
Modern art is a joke and of absolutely no value. I often don’t understand the draw for a lot of modern art, but I can and do appreciate many different types of art.
Love at first site? Doesn’t exist. Of course it exists. Follow your heart.
And as far as you’re concerned, no one has one true soulmate. My wife is my one true soulmate. If I didn’t think any differently I wouldn’t be married. We’re the best of best friends, like soulmates should be. As for her being the only one? I think in other parallel dimensions and paths of life this changes and there are more than one. In this dimension there is only one true soulmate.
Lucky objects or rituals are for the weak minded. I like dice and the rabbit’s foot. Do they bring me luck? Sometimes they just might, who really knows? I’d rather believe than disbelieve.
You prefer movies with realistic endings to movies with happy endings. It doesn’t have to be realistic, but it should be plausible in the framework of the story. Big difference.
You don’t expect anyone to be truthful, including your family and friends. No, quite the opposite. I expect them to be trutful. Expecting dishonesty from your family and friends seems very dark to me.
If you need something done right, you know you need to do it yourself. When I was a teenager I believed silly things like this, but then I got into management and eventually ownership. Delegation and teamwork are important skill to learn.
When people play by the rules, it’s only because they’re afraid of getting caught cheating. No.
You’re sick of the health police telling you how to eat. No, I can use a waggling finger (not the middle one) on the health front. I’m disappointed that I couldn’t stick to a solid health and exercise regiment last year.
You don’t vote. It doesn’t make a difference in the end anyway. Not only do I vote, I wish more youthful people voted. If the voter turnout was better maybe we’d wield a bigger stick. The problem is not enough people vote. We need to change that. I’m doing my part, are you?
Working hard is for suckers. No way. Despite what studies have shown, I believe hard work opens far more doors than certificates and schooling. That isn’t saying I disrespect those who seek higher education, it’s just that the most educated man will be a failure if he has no work ethic.
You don’t believe in the supernatural. Actually, I do. Some things are not understood and cannot be explained. I am not a freak about this and I don’t believe in all supernatual things (there’s that “all” word again) but I believe in some.

Hat tip to Sterling who is more cynical (48%) than I. And he’s a Libra too!

  2. I received a 40%, and the picture blurb said the very same thing yours does; “Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions. You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you’re not anybody’s fool.”

I consider myself quite spiritual. Because of my faith, I didn’t necessarily like the wording of some of the checkboxes. Some could be checked or not - depending on how it was worded. But I was cynical enough going into this to take it as entertainment value from the get go ;-)

  3. 92% but then I was buggered by priest when I was a chorister, been persecuted by corrupt police, have worked in a charity and seen the ‘Trustees’ divert money to expensive cars, first class travel for them and their families and stay in 5 star hotels and that lot is just for starters - Screw them before they screw you, and they will try - that’s my motto

  4. Hmm, 72% but then I wasn’t buggered by a priest. I told him he’d have to buy me dinner first.
