Microsoft axes Vista P2P feature |
A decision surely to disappoint peer to peer fans, and probably to have zero change on the price tag is Microsoft’s removal of PC to PC sync (P2P) from Vista, see TechWeb:
Part of a broader synchronization update in Vista — the operating system will have a prominent Sync Center for all such chores, including synchronizing PCs with servers and mobile — PC-to-PC Sync was based on peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, and would have let Vista users sync the contents of specialized folders, including the by-default Documents, Pictures, and Music, between multiple PCs on wired or wireless networks.
The article quotes a Microsoft spokesperson as saying they plan to release it “in the future.” A service pack? Does this have shades of the much revamped and toted WinFS file system getting axed or is this much less significant?
Yesterday, Microsoft released its first public beta download of Vista, download servers are jammed, so good luck getting in on that one. I’m probably going to pass on this reviewing Vista beta. At least this one. Let me know if you check it out and what you think below.
Did this post make you go hmm?
