Mobile poker, slots and roulette coming to Venetian in 2006 or 2007 |
Since being legalized in Nevada, I continue to follow the use of wireless gambling in terrestrial casinos, and because I invested in IGT, one of the largest slot machine makers. Who will get these wireless devices (pictured below) first?

The company said it would provide the mobile gambling services at The Venetian after a field trial late this year or early next and after receiving regulatory approval.
They will have restrictions like they cannot be played in the hotel rooms and other non-public areas inside the casino.
I believe these portable PDA-like devices are going to open the door to legalized online gambling here in the United States. Why? Once Nevada gets something that people like — and I think people will like the idea of being able to walk around the casino with these portable devices and gamble — then the indian casinos will push to get them available in their casinos. And if/once that happens, we are just one small step away from allowing gambling out of the casinos online.
There is a ton of money being spent online gambling and it seems very foolish for the government not to be involved, regulating and taxing as opposed to prohibition which clearly isn’t working.
What do you think of these portable wireless gambling devices? Would you like the idea to be able to play these while waiting in line for a show inside the casino or waiting to eat or sitting around the pool getting a tan?

IGT has been making moves in portable gambling that has been legalized in Nevada with their experiment at the Venetian. I’m looking forward to seeing how the casinos do with these new PDA-like devices that are going to extend the gambling experience beyond the machines on the floor. The casino owners and operators are hoping this will help combat the online gambling, but these portable devices are still prohibited from being used in rooms. […]
