MLB pitcher to mix it up with Everquest II players in charity drive |

The lines between the virtual and real world continue to be blurred as MLB pitcher Curt Schilling will be entering the MMORPG Everquest II while the Bosox take on the Yankees from June 5-7.
Schilling’s game character will be online for three days during the Yankees vs. Red Sox baseball series June 5-7. During this time, any one can challenge the “epically awesome, loot-dropping virtual bad guy;” SOE will donate $5 (up to a maximum of $10,000) to the ALS Association, an organization that helps patients with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. After the three-day series, Schilling’s character will remain in the game as a high-powered enemy that gamers will have to face later in the game.
This is a great idea and something that Sony is doing right. World of Warcraft (WoW) is the hot MMORPG of the moment. I haven’t played EQ II but have logged many hours with the original EQ. We have WoW, but not an active monthly account at the moment. One of our kids really likes WoW and has been on us to reactivate the subscription. My friend Forser from Sweden has a real life girlfriend he talks to in WoW.
Still getting into Second Life
Most my virtual world time has been logged in Second Life (SL) in 2006 which yesterday rolled out v1.10 of their software. The picture at the top of this post is me working on the MakeYouGoHmm sign next to my TD Scripts store inside SL. Speaking of SL, it might not be a good idea to use Flickr for screenshots or your account could be marked as NIPSA (Not In Public Site Areas). Apparently Flickr is all about photos, not screenshots (?). It’s ok, I’m sure now that the Linden Scripting Language has HTTP, somebody will cook up a plugin that does what you want. I would expect even more exciting SL to RL (web) mashups over the next couple months. And even more when Linden Labs (finally) brings HTML on prims.
