Technically this could be a good thing fellas! If we buy the right to PLAY a game, but not technically own the media, then the Prices should be $30CHEAPER. If I cant let a friend borrow a game, or I cant leverage it in a pawn to pay bills, it technically isnt worth keeping on the shelf. The Blackmarket is finally going to BOOM, with Players selling thier games to eachother as opposed to selling them at stores for less than thier worth. Truly, now that most european and american Games are more playable than a lot of slop from other foreign markets , The Xbox may very well thrive until PS3 is about 150 dollars, and subsequently becomes what the Old XBOX used to be. a powerful Lunchbox with a lot of games. Suppport your XBOX, becaus that is the last hope of maintaining our traditional way of Gaming Life. Now, about Gears 4-player Splitcreen......

[...] Sony has been taking a steady flow of criticism from gamers and videogame pundits over PS3 system and game pricing and the possibility of trying to stamp out the resale market, but it is really saying something when videogame legends like Jeff Minter (”Yak”) of Llamasoft start criticizing them. Rumors have suggested that some games may cost as much as $100. They should dial up SNK long before November and ask them about the Neo Geo. Great system, great games, too expensive. We don’t even know yet if the PS3 games will be great, but we do know it will have a Blu-ray drive built-in. Last night I checked out a local retail store shelf and there were two small rows of Blu-ray movies and three small rows of HD-DVD. I can’t see many gamers buying the system to play movies.
Sony wants to ban us from selling preowned games, cause we usually sell the ones that are too short and/or not worth purchasing in the first place. So instead of putting out quality games, they are just gonna keep sending us garbage, that we arent allowed to get rid of. Maybe we should try to ban the sale of japanese products in EU and US.

Also if they want to ban the sale of preowned games, will they also ban rentals?

It's that "who knows" parts that scares me.

Like TDavid said, they didn't even blink an eye when the rootkit thing went down, and with the current bad press with the pricing of the PS3 (which is actually decent with the Blu-ray drive, but they don't give you an option of not having one) and the usual RIAA stuff, you can't help but wonder.

I particularly like the way the PSP is going right now, as far as the gaming selections. But PS3.. man..

This would be a disaster for Sony.
I imagine it's all being blown out of proportion and that no game system would even think about doing something like this...but who knows.
I'll bet Gamestop/Ebgames is ready to call a hit on the exec who is proposing this disastrous concept.

There are many people dispelling the rumor, but Sony hasn't come out and said anything. I'm curious if their music department has gotten a hold of their gaming and trying to become the RIAA of games. Hopefully they come out against this, but I'm worried that they won't.
