Can you become the 2006 MakeYouGoHmm Reader Virtual Tycoon?

play virtual stock game

Following the Da Vinci Quest these past few weeks has been fun, so I thought it would be cool to play another game online. Time to put your stock expertise to the test and without any financial risk to you.

Marketwatch has kicked off a virtual stocks trading game. You can create stock games and make them public or private. I thought it would be fun to start a game among ourselves here at Hmm, so I created one and made it public. If you’d like to play, it’s free to sign up and play. Use your play money to start buying stocks and we’ll see who ranks #1 between now and the end of the year.

Prize
$100 USD to the *top performer as determined by overall net worth for Game ID: MakeYouGoHmm as of 12:01 am PST January 1, 2007, to be paid via PayPal in January 2007.

Rules
All players start with $100,000 virtual currency with no resets/restarts allowed. No purchase is necessary to play. Contest/game void where prohibited by law. In the event of a tie, the prize money will be split among top performers.

*KMR Enterprises employees (that includes me) are inelligible to win, but will rank.

How to sign up / play

1. Open this link and read the competition summary.
2. Click on the ‘Join Game’ link.
3. If you are an existing Virtual Stock Exchange member, enter your Email address and Password in the login panel and get set to trade. If you are a new user, follow the link to register - it’s easy!
4. Follow the instructions and start trading!

Depending on involvement — the more players the better — KMR Enterprises reserves the right to add more prizes and/or increase the cash value prize but will be no less than $100 USD, so sign up and start playing today and let’s have some fun and see who becomes the 2006 MakeYouGoHmm Reader Virtual Tycoon.

Update 10:55am PST: You will want to use Firefox or Internet Explorer to join the game. Problems have been reported when using the Opera browser. Thanks Forser for the feedback.

  1. T, can I donate a prize, too? I’ve been getting a bunch of free DVDs and books to giveaway, and I wouldn’t mind pitching in something from the pile at the end of the year, as long as I can still be allowed to be in the running to win.

  4. Great! Count me in for one movie/TV DVD box to be named later, possibly letting the winner choose from a list, and possibly more (including books) if the pile is big enough. And my guarantee that it won’t be something that stinks (guarantee not valid in Alaska and Hawii).

  5. I’ll get with you privately Nathan as this gets closer to work out the logistics, thanks for the generous offer.

  10. I’m all up for the game. Money game like this gets people excited. This is perfect, 100 bucks reward at absolutly no risk! But money isn’t everything you know, (it’s not plentiful for example). So don’t be led astray onto the paths of virtue.

I do have several doubts though, how will you contact the winner of the game? VSE doesn’t display player’s contact info. Furthermore, do I have to be a memeber of makeyougohmm.com to be eleligble? the 100 bucks’ mine. That money shall ease the burden of my college loan.

  16. Hi,
I noticed that you had advertisements for \”winning money\” and was curious if you would be interested in displaying results for \”stock information\” \”smart trading\” or \”trading stocks/options\”?

With Searchfeed, you can have control over what it is that you display results for.

Would you like to see some examples?
    Let me know.

    Thanks.

  17. Jacques - where did you notice we had advertisements like that? We haven’t taken out ads for those keywords anywhere else. We use searchfeed in our downloadable toolbar, or at least we did. Never saw a penny from it, so doubtful we’d be interested in doing anything else.
