2D platform video game fans, today is the day for a new Super Mario Bros. adventure on the Nintendo DS. Our family has logged a lot of playing time with those red and green plumber guys.

Nintendo has been spreading the word that these adventures are new, not just recycled like the Mario that launched with the DS. If there has been one game that has really gotten around town, it’s Mario. But this game includes new levels, new powerups and new bosses. Of course the familiar side scrolling feel appears to be there by the screenshots.

Ken Edwards has compiled a detailed review:

New Super Mario Bros. is the quintessential platformer that you should not hesitate adding to your DS library. With a classic single-player game, over a dozen mini-games, and the addicting Mario vs. Luigi game, it is very easy to feel like a kid at Christmas, again.

It’s about time for me to dust off my DS and put it back in action. The last game I bought and played on the DS was Nintendogs, and some (younger) readers have not stopped giving me grief about the review since.
