No audio onload share care bears in RSS feeds please |
This morning I’m going through my RSS reading using reblog when all of a sudden my speakers start running out some preschool Barney-like song going on and on about the wonders of sharing.
As I’m going through the list I’m getting increasingly annoyed wondering who was the jackass who shared this neverending audio onload song. How ironic. Annoyed that the song kept playing repeatedly and would. Not. Stop. Man, they should play this song in the death row wings. The cons would be frantically reaching for shanks to puncture their eardrums.
Yeah, I could have just turned off the speakers but I was listening to something else, you see that’s the problem with auto load on sounds. Disruption. Anybody got a good Firefox plugin to kill all onload audio?

BTW, the culprit is pictured above. Oddly enough, I don’t see the clip on the website so it must have been a treat just for RSS subscribers … or what?. I won’t mention their name, but suffice to say the offending party found the quick way to be shown the door on my daily reading list. Congratulations, it’s that easy. Really.
Did this post make you go hmm?

Maybe this greasemonkey script could help?

Now this is just irritating. To me and more than likely to you as well, having audio autostart from within your favorite RSS feed is enough to drive a person nutzo!…

Sterling - thanks for the suggestion. I did try that one but it throws an exception error (and thus won’t install) in Greasemonkey. Does it for you? Seems like a rather simple script too, only an if statement which strips out any presence of bgsound.

Hmm. Installed fine for me. I wonder if some of your other plugins might be affecting it?

That appeared to be the issue, Sterling, as I could install just fine on a couple other machines.

[…] Greasemonkey - this extension allows changes on websites. For some things like removing background autoload audio, this can be helpful. You can find thousands of Greasemonkey scripts including contributing your own at userscripts.org. […]
