Illegal immigrants marching only in America |
As famous boxing promoter Don King would say: “Only in America” and what could be more true than illegal immigrants forming a mass march day — during work hours — for many of them. As a small business owner who only employs legal citizens I’m even more disturbed by this spectacle.
An informal internet poll on the MSNBC television showed that 67 per cent of those surveyed wanted illegal immigrants at the rallies to be arrested.
We have brave men and women dying over in Iraq, gas prices going up, and this is supposedly good timing for illegal immigrants to rise up and march? Screw that. I wish INS would be standing by with plans to deport these people (not going to happen). Also, employers impacted that don’t realize they’ve got illegals working for them (wishful thinking, I know) will label these walkouts voluntary terminations and replace them with legal American citizens.
And before anybody thinks I have something against mexicans who reportedly make up some 60% of the illegals in the US, don’t even go there. I have a lot of hispanic blood in me with my great grandmother being 100% mexican. Love to eat hot, spicy food, especially authentic mexican food, not the crap being packaged up at many of these wannabe mexican restaurants. I don’t care where these immigrants are from as long as they are illegal, I want them deported. Enforce the borders. Cork the genie.
And as for the argument that Americans won’t do the jobs these illegal immigrants are doing my response is to raise the freaking pay and let’s see what happens. If this means as consumers we end up paying more for goods/services, fine I’ll do it. I’ll pay more for produce. More for construction. More for a sticker that says Made In America (by legal citizens). We’re already paying more for gas and that has nothing to do with illegal immigrants.
Deport these people back to their homelands. They couldn’t march there or they wouldn’t be here. I love America, but I don’t like how we’ve become the welfare system for anybody that can smuggle themselves across the border or on a boat.
What is so difficult to understand about legal vs. illegal here? Argh. So many better things to march for than what this group of people cares about who is illegally here now.
Did this post make you go hmm?

I agree 100%. I work for a living - no handouts. Nor do I want them. If I was an employer I would ‘find’ a reason to fire anyone who took off for they day to do this. On top of all this - I heard that 29% of US inmate populations are hispanic. I’m not racial by any means. To think that workers can all just not come in one day, to protest MY country - they can leave. If it’s really that bad JUST LEAVE. The one’s that want to come in legally, and work can come in the front gate just like all the other hard working immigrants have done. I think this whole thing is total bullshit.

The Real Answer To Illegal Immigration
This guy seems upset about today’s immigration marches. If they’re here illegally, he wants them deported. I guess that means he wants everyone else, including himself, to be held accountable for any laws we may have broken. Violated anyone’s copyri…

Too bad you can’t come up with something relevant, Snob? Seems like something hundreds of years ago isn’t the same as people running across the borders today.

Do you realize that making illegals legal - that they would be able to bring they’re entire family here from Mexico? So if there is 15 million illegals(loose number) a spouse, and an average of 2 children - how that would change the face of this country? 15 million x 4 = 60 MILLION people?
These people that are marching, if illegal, can’t even vote. So here we have this rediculous mob of illegals swaying the nation? How does THAT work? ILLEGAL. This would be like inmates rising up in protests complaining about something like matresses not being soft enough. Too bad! You broke the law. You are illegal! This makes me wonder why isn’t the INS along the protest route roping them in? How can illegals(criminals) have a public protest?
I also think that employers who knowingly hire these people are treasonous as well. IMO this is a civil war without the weapons and we better do something drastic to take our country back. We could end up with a communistic population before you know it. Thats the type of ideal from where these people are comming from.

Lestat: that’s a lot of new tax dollars.
Comment by Snob — May 1, 2006 @ 9:10 pm PST
Indeed it is. But it’s also A LOT of government handouts for UNSKILLED workers. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for anyone comming to this country
Thats what this country is about. However, the front door would be the proper way. If I were to sneak into Mexico, and have my own Mayday protest, and waving the flag of the United States, how far do you think that would go?

People seem to forget that the ILLEGAL immigrants are taking jobs from the LEGAL immigrants. I am a mexican american and want more rights for the mexicans who come over legally! Minimum wages won’t work with illegal immigrants working at lower wages. We are using and abusing the illegal immigrants just because they are willing to accept a job for less? That’s not right! Keep the immigrants who are willing to go through the immigration process LEGALLY!

One thing that tends to be overlooked is the fact that some of those illegal immigrants signed up with our military so they can become legal citizens. Some have given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. I know a guy from Jamaica who served six years in the Army in order to get his citizenship. There’s a lot of young, conservative Americans who would rather sit at home complaining about illegals and liberals than serve their country. Like Vietnam, it’s the majority of lower-classes and people of color who do the fighting and dying for the “noble causes” of the wealthy and powerful.

illegals aren’t so much the problem they could be the solution. if we did things gangs of new york style, illegals VS. legalls; all out in the streets
Comment by joe — May 11, 2006 @ 2:19 pm PST
As pissed off as we might be inclined to get over this issue, it is still interesting to watch these illegals marching in the streets, standing up for their beliefs and what they think are their ‘rights’. And meanwhile we (legal) citizens of the good ol’ USA are doing nothing but bitching about it from our laptops and lazyboys. I have to give them at least partial credit for getting up off their asses, organizing the scale protest that they did and standing up for what they believe in. Collectively, we 13 people leaving comments to this blog post couldn’t even come up with a 300 people a piece to form a march for our country, our rights as citizens and what we believe in. Yes, and this finger is also pointed at myself.
I’m not 110% certain that kicking them out of the country is the answer or, at best, even feasible. Honestly I don’t know what the answer is. But, getting them documented, legal, and paying into the system like the rest of us do, is not only possible but necessary. I blame the government for allowing it to happen more than I place blame on the illegals. The system to do what they do has been acceptable from our govenment’s stance for decades.

The concept of immigrant legalization through statehood has never surfaced. If all these people want to be citizens of the US, how about starting a debate on the pros and cons of Mexico, or parts there of, applying for statehood.

my mother came to the u.s from europe in 1936, had a sponsor and had to wait several years before she could take an exam to gain citizenship. today there are thousands of others going the same route. why in the world do these illegals think they can jump to the front of the line or not even get on the line at all? because they know they can get away with it. who’s fault is that? weak legislators who are more concerned about building parks and monuments in their home districts than concentrating on building up border defenses, something that can be done, must be done. ah but will it be done? i doubt it. the only way seems to be by burning out their camps. this is a turning point. if the powers that be choose to let this travesty continue americans will start lashing out, rabid to drink the blood of the invaders AND THOSE WHO FACILITATE.

I wonder what African Americans think of this whole immigration thing? Do you think AA men are given the chance at those so-called ‘jobs nobody wants’ or are they turned away at the door due to racism?
hmmm

Victor: They march in our country illegally only because OUR. GOVERNMENT. ALLOWS. IT. Don’t be shocked at the opinions expressed here as a result of a blog post. If you want to be shocked by anything about this whole mess, aim it in the direction over the fact that our government can’t formulate a plot.

ALL OVER THE WORLD THERE ARE LOW ECONOMY COMMUNITIES, POOR COMMUNITIES. IN AMERICA WE CALL THEM GHETTOS. BUT IN LATIN COUNTRIES
THERE IS MYSERY. JUST LIKE YOU SEE IN THE COMMERCIALS OF KIDS IN AFRICA,INDIA,SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA STARVING AND DYING FROM
HUNGER,SICKNESS ETC.ON TOP OF THAT THERE IS LOW ECONOMY AN AMERICAN DOLLAR IS WORTH 17 DOLLARS IN NICARAGUA. MY UNCLE WORKS 48 HOURS A WEEK FOR 25 DOLLARS A WEEK AND THE COST OF HIS MORTGAGE IS 150 DOLLARS. FOR HIM TO COME TO AMERICA LEGALLY HE WOULD HAVE TO 950 DOLLARS JUST TO HAVE A MEETING WITH SOME U.S GOVERMENT OFFICIALS THAT DECIDE WETHER HE CAN COME OR NOT ON TOP OF THAT HE MUST HAVE A BANK ACOUNT FOR THREE YEARS AND OWN SOME TYPE OF MORTGAGE PROPERTY. PUT YOURSELF IN HIS SHOES.OF COURSE AMERICANS HIRE ILLEGAL IMMAGRANTS THEY DO WHAT YOU WONT DO BECAUSE IN OUR COUNTRY YOUR MINIMUM WAGE IS MIDDLE CLASS LIVING TO THESE PEOPLE. OLD LADIES PICKIN CHERRIES IN A FARM,CLEANING BATHROOMS,CUTTING OUR LAWNS, AND IF THEY GET LUCKY AND SPEAK ENOUGH ENGLISH TO DEFEND THEMSELVES THEY CAN WORK AT MC DONALDS. SURE WE CAN GET ON OUR COMPUTER AND SAY THIS AND THAT ABOUT THESE PEOPLE, BUT ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION WOULD YOU PAY TO GET LAWN CUT,BUSHES PRUNED,TREES TRIMED,FLOWERS PLANTED, FOR ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS BY FIVE ILLEGAL IMMAGRANTS OR PAY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THIS JOB TO BE DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL.
YES, THEY TOOK A DAY TO STAND UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS, I TOOK THAT DAY OFF TO AND I WAS BORN HERE. THEY TOOK THAT THEY OFF SO THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN SEE WHAT A DEBT THEY MAKE IN OUR NATION.MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WERE LOST THATS WHY ARE GOVERNMENT IS HAVING SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME MAKING A FINAL PLOT. THEY REALIZED THAT M.I.A.M.I MONEY IS A MAJOR ISSUE PEOPLE (LOL).
