Planned Columbine-style attack thwarted by MySpace tipoff |
Doing a Google news search on 420 reveals mostly pot-related stories. The love for chronic of some knows no bounds apparently.
Sandwiched in with the weed coverage is this disturbing story about five teens that had planned to launch a Columbine-style attack at their school at 1pm today. Thankfully police sprung into action after being tipped off to a post on MySpace.com.
The message discussed the significance of April 20, which is Adolf Hitler’s birthday and the anniversary of the 1999 Columbine High School attack in Colorado, in which two students wearing trench coats killed 13 people and committed suicide, the sheriff said.“The message, it was brief, but it stated that there was going to be a shooting at the Riverton school and that people should wear bulletproof vests and flak jackets,”
Riverton is located in Kansas. The kids had a cache of guns, ammo and allegedly had targeted 12 students and one faculty member.
In my day — and man that makes me sound old — students duked it out with fists and vague handwritten notes sometimes passed threatening who might get their butt kicked in a fist fight. Oh, and the drug of choice was chronic (there’s the 420 reference again). Today the weapons of choice are guns and blog posts on Myspace and I don’t even want to know what the drug of choice is today. My how times have changed.
Did this post make you go hmm?
