TDavid, we’ll certainly keep your suggestions in mind as we improve Technorati. One more suggestion might be for you, as the leader of the group, to keep your claim and, as you suggest, create a new group member account with image and add that claim as well. Then both you and the group get credit and a photo. I hope this is a workable solution for you. Dorion

Dorion - thank you for looking into this and please bookmark this post and come back and notify us when/if there is some change that would better support group blogs for a single image/logo. I don’t think the solution you offered will work but I will probably try that out with a few members and see what happens.

I can think of another way of achieving what I’m asking for a single group logo: that would mean unclaiming as being from me and claiming as a different group Technorati user. Not sure if that’s allowed by your TOS, though (is it?), but that would give our group a single entity instead of being attached to me, although technically I am the one who started the blog and am the leader of the group. Then again, I don’t really want to screw with things now that we are being listed properly.

There are lots of group blogs out there these days, so I’m sure this issue is not unique to us.

TDavid, I expect that BlogCharm does ping and, based on this post on their blog of 3/23, it seems there may have been an issue of some kind with the HTML or pinging, http://www.helpmeblog.com/index.php/blog/comments/blogcharm_template_validations/. The fact that we were not receiving pings from your blog until your recent changes suggests that the issue may have impacted you.

Regarding multiple photos, we’ll have to think about that. We have strived to maintain a practical balance between ease of use and authentication when it comes to claiming a blog. We wouldn’t want unauthenticated users to be able to claim or post a photo and, thus, asking that a member prove they can author on the blog by editing the template is our balance. If there is someone else who can edit the template and embed the claim code on behalf of those who cannot, that would solve the problem, albeit as a work around.

Again, thank you for the feedback. We’ll keep trying to make things better and easier. Dorion

Thanks for the info, Dorion, but wouldn’t it just be easier to be able to assign different pictures for different blogs? In the case of our group blog, not everybody in our group can alter the template which is required to post the Technorati claim code. I do realize they can make a post with the claim code.

Also, I (and other Blogcharm authors, I’d imagine) was under the understanding that blogcharm *was* pinging Technorati. Are you saying that Blogcharm is not doing this for their bloggers? In that case, that would be a huge help and I’m totally not understand why Tom and Jeff (at blogexplosion) haven’t done this. It’s not like it takes very much time or energy to initiate an RPC ping.

Is that what you are saying, Dorion or am I misunderstanding you?

On the issue of a group blog and multiple pictures, multiple people can create a blog claim on a single blog. If each of the authors of your blog create a Technorati Member ID, upload a photo, and claim the blog individually, we will list each of the photos and profiles in results where space permits. Glad you were able to get your blog pinging us so we could add it to the Technorati index. The key to your success was the ping configuration in Feedburner. Technorati indexes blogs when they ping. No ping - no index. Should you have further difficulties with any of the ping configuration, you can always generate a manual ping. Just go to http://technorati.com/ping for instructions, it’s very simple.
