Don’t be a sucker, April Fool’s is upon us |
With April Fool’s Day already striking in some parts of the world as I write this, figured I’d mention to readers who are also bloggers to be extra cautious about taking things too seriously the next couple days. In the tech world, the weekends tend to be shorter on news anyway, so this will give some bogus stories more time to resonate before being knocked off by other news. If you see greater than life headlines/stories before getting too excited, check the sources. For those who peg me as an uber cynic, expect my cynial nature to rise 1000% over the next couple days.
If I find some good April’s Fools Day posts/websites I’ll pass them along. I might even get involved in the fun myself (hint, hint). Life is too short if you don’t have a good laugh now and again.
What’s your favorite April Fool’s prank/website?
Update 6:06pm PST: Slashponies? LOL! See comments, thanks Sterling.

Did this post make you go hmm?

You’ve probably seen it (Scoble featured it yesterday), but this one is pretty good: http://www.mymsnsearch.com/index.aspx
It works particularly well with non- to semi-geeks. In fact, it could almost function as a geekometer: measure the number of seconds it takes for the victim to recognize it as a spoof. geekness = 1.0 / nseconds

Yeah, I saw a few days ago before Scoble posted it being passed around on a Microsoft mailing list I’m on and thought about linking that. There was a 404 error on the spoof link that I left as a comment on Scoble’s blog, not sure if they fixed that yet.
There is a non-spoof site Googlism that grabs your name and bits of text pulled from various SE that’s not a spoof but actually kind of interesting. Check out this:

“boring and dumb” and “overvalued” I can take, but “1 1/2 inches long”? That’s hitting below the belt. And besides, I just got out of the pool.
I think yours is rigged: http://www.googlism.com/index.htm?ism=tdavid&type=1

LOL I think your name is a little too common so you are getting other garbage mixed in there.

I like the pretty purple ponies. They are fun. And why not! It’s April 1st. Unleash your inner geek, and play with your (least) favorite toy!
