MLB will investigate ‘roids rage

health and lifestyle — by TDavid @ 3:42 pm PST

Bud Selig who up until recently maintained that he was only interested in the current and future and not the past as far as steroids use in Major League Baseball (MLB) held a live press conference today to announce that there will be an investigation into performance enhancing substances.

MLB toughened their drug policy but that hasn’t been enough in some people’s eyes.

Will asterisks be flying all over the record books? In the sweltering spotlight stands Barry Bonds on the verge of breaking Babe Ruth’s 715 and seeing the all time homerun record (755) in the distance and the question: did he … or didn’t he use steroids?

The last time I brought this up a few good comments were left including one by Warner Crocker: “We were all cheated. I find the entire doping of athletes to be just plain wrong and the antithesis of sports. Unless the records are asterisked at some point in the future (or expunged) I’ll not support the sport again.”

I’m glad to see this investigation taking place. It’s a little late, but better than never which is what it was looking like under Selig’s watch. If they do find something afoul with Bonds, then will they ban him from further play or let him break the record or what? It might be too late. I think this could be Bonds last year either way as he’s not exactly a picture of health.

The ‘roids rages on.

  1. I agree that steroids should be outlawed and punished, but I don’t think they should asterisk any standing records. How is this really any different from a jockey purging himself into bulemia in order to make weight? That should be outlawed, too — but even if they did, no race results would be modified.

  2. Hrmm, maybe because bluemia isn’t illegal?
