Here’s a visited map tool where you check boxes of the states you visited and generate a colored .gif map reminded me that so far I’m not very well travelled geographically.

how many states have you visited?

In my life of which is nearing being half over according to the mortality charts, I’ve only visited a small 12% of the country. As I ponder this further, I’m missing a few states when I was younger. For example, I know I’ve been to Yellowstone park and that’s not marked on the map. But even if you give me 15 states, it’s still not close to quarter of the states percentage-wise. If one looks at area, however, it’s probably closer to 25%. California and Montana are big states.

I’d like to visit all 50 states before either being packed in dirt or thrown in the oven. We are planning a family vacation for either next year or the year after to the east coast. Looking at the map, it would seem that seeing another dozen states in one trip along the right coast would be quite possible. Will definitely be spending more time in the yearning years (retirement) travelling to other states.

What states should be top on our list to travel to and why? New York, Florida, Texas and of course the nation’s capital are on the list. How many states have you visited?

  1. Been to 33% of the states according to this map thingie. I’d tell you to visit certain places, but they might be a little bit smaller than you’re used to since it took me forever to get used to NC coming from Seattle. Myrtle Beach, SC is a nice place but a bit redneck. It’s fun for family though as far as a beach place.

You’re missing FL for at least the Disney World, MGM, etc. It’s pretty much the same, as Cali, but a bit more. You could always try Sanibel island, FL. It’s beautiful there and Gulf side. Retirement community, but that area around there is very peaceful relaxation.

  2. The kids are definitely into Disney World. I wonder if that will be as expensive as Universal Studios.

  4. 86% for me. I lived in FL for 10 years, and I have no desire to return. Too hot and humid, too many stupid people. The Great Northwest is far better.
