New Windows Live Search says goodbye to pagination |
Some of the live.com fruits on display from the most recent Search Champs are starting to be released publically and thus we can start talking about them. Check out the new all-in-one Windows Live Search scroll:

The first part of the name aside, which I find nonsensical (why the Windows part in there?), it’s noteworthy that they are trying to keep everything in one browser window with a IFRAME like window scroll (#2 pictured above). Scroll down and no need for page changes which could be a definite timesaver, which I like. By moving the top scroll slider (#1 pictured above) less to more information about the search results is displayed.
I don’t care for the vertical pixel waste (red arrows pictured above). The line that says “Didn’t get the results you expected? Help us improve” is just wasted pixel space. That could be moved up to the top where the yellow results are and right align it so it doesn’t clutter the page, thus giving more space for search results window. Also push down that copyright notice so it’s almost flush against the bottom of the browser. Instead, there is a bunch of wasted white space. I’m not using search for eye candy, I’m using it for quick, relevant results so give me the maximum size of browser space possible for search results.
Firefox Windows Live search?
A few Live searches conducted returned useful, relevant results. Impressed, I decided to alter my default Firefox search to use the new Live search instead for awhile so I can do more testing. If there is an official link to Firefox engine for Windows Live, please let me know in the comments below. I created one and am happy to share as an unofficial one, but would rather point to an official one.
My unofficial one (src file): http://tdurl.com/la
Copy this file to directory and then close and restart Firefox and you’ll have an option for Windows Live search:
/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/searchplugins
Update 9:03am PST: The last time I mentioned custom Firefox search extensions, Adam shared some Javascript code to make the process a one click affair.

i’m not sure i really like the live search. one thing that i noticed was that after conducting a search and clicking on one of the results, hitting ‘back’ would take me back to the live.com start page with my original query in the search bar. after a brief second, the search would reload and display the same results making it feel like i went through a whole loop just to return to the results.
i’m not a fan of the navigation either. you have to be a little more careful when trying to scroll otherwise the results fly by.
